Swamphunter
I'm thinking about constructing a small hunting cabin, just big enough for two people. I want it small in size maybe 12' x 16' or so, maybe even a bit smaller. Gonna put a set of bunk beds in it for my son and I. Then add a small woodstove or heater of some sort. I was just wondering what is the smallest hunting cabin/shack that you guys have? I'm not talking camping for a week... just for an overnighter, or maybe two nights at best....with my boy so he can learn about the outdoors and camping as opposed to buying a camper and go parking next to 300 other campers overlooking a river and a highway, and not seeing any wildlife other than seagulls. OJR
If I remember right, Cabela's have some cabins just like what you are asking about.
Doe-ee
Most of the lumber stores here sell all sizes of shed kits that would make perfect little cabins. I know they start at 8x6 and go all the way up to double garage sizes. They all include at least one door, window and the roof but any flooring, insulation, siding and rain goods are extra. Might be worth checking out in your area. Sales on these should be advertising soon here.

GWSmith
That is what I want...basically a glorified tent. That weighs 20+ times more than a Tent! I'm assuming that you've got land to put this hut on. You've got the transport of all the materials to the site on what would more than likely be multiple trips. Dude...LOL...Have you seen the price of a single sheet of plywood lately? I'd say go for the quality of an outfitters tent. Something that you can share with your son now and pass on to him later. Something people overlook is the time spent setting them up and taking them down. It's a great time together during which you can teach him how to respect and care for the gear he will eventually own. If you change your mind on where it's located...It's Portable!!!!!!!!!! pendog
I did my shed 13/13 with an open ceiling. Plenty of room for a small cabin. A 13/16 would be a great smal cabin.
jcwa
The camp house we had was 12'X12'. We used it for 18 years. It was fine for 2 people to stay a week in. We had a bunk bed, small table and a stove in it. But after a while we started leaving more and more stuff in it, and it started to get a little to small. 12' X 16' would be a better size for the 2 of you. Swamphunter
My wife would never set foot in the woods, but my daughter may. Its basically going to be an overnighter, or maybe for the weekend for my son and I during hunting season. A set of bunk beds, a few hooks on the wall, a gun rack, a small heater, a funnel, camping porta potty and an oil lamp or two on a small table would suit us fine for what we would need. After some modifications (insulation, wood stove, a couple windows) they have a dry, warm place to sleep or just warm up. On the back wall they put in a couple bunks that fold up giving them room to set up the card table. It easily "sleeps" 4 (one on each bunk and 2 on the floor) with plenty of "socializing" room before bedtime!
m gardner
Just remember with something that small the tighter you make it the more chance there is of carbon monoxide being a problem. Get a little detector to check it out especially with the lamps and heater you describe so you don't go to sleep for good. mark
Swamphunter
This is what I am thinking of... something along this line. Just withconventional lumber and cedar siding I think.
Randy
This is what I am thinking of... something along this line. Just withconventional lumber and cedar siding I think. That looks perfect to me Ken! I've been looking at tents and realized most cots are 76"-82" long. That means to put two of the against one wall it has to be atleast 14' long. Good luck and remember,..........We want construction pics!!

I would be putting in bunk beds just for that reason. Best use of space in a small cabin.
