This link is in regards to the Conservation Congress Spring Hearings that are being held tonight at 7pm in each of the 72 counties in Wisconsin. There are some pretty important issues at hand, the most important one being Question #57.

This advisory question is worded to harm Bowhunting without doing much harm to the gun hunters and is an unfair assault on our season. This question seeks to make the archery season an anterless only season except for opening weekend and two weeks during the rut. Bowhunters would not be allowed to harvest a buck at any time of the bow season if this passes.

Other important questions up for vote are Question 50, 59 & 62, 66, 78, and Question 81.

I don't understand why they would want to have that.:p:confused:

From what I heard it's because they over estimated the deer population. They estimated 1.8 million and apparently there's only 800,000, which means they were off by 1 million so something is definitely wrong. Either way I vote NO.

First of all that is a pretty rediculous proposal and I cant see too many people going for it. Second of all, I dont see them doing that seeing as they already canceled EAB for this year and this is pretty much the same thing. Just another way the DNR is screwing up hunting in our state:mad:

If they overestimated the herd, we would be going back to bucks plus quota, not antlerless only. Sounds like a gun hunter issued advisory question to me. My father-in-law hates bowhunters. He tries to talk hunting politics with me more and more lately. I usually just walk away.

Earn A Buck works but it does not address the issue of pockets of high deer densities and pockets of very low deer densities within the same DMU. My personal opinion is that when our deer herd was booming in the mid 80s to mid 90s, the WDNR underestimated the herd number. This is the period of deer seasons that hunters base there deer sightings on. Now hunters, and gun hunters inparticular want to see that many deer again everytime they go in the woods. It can't work that way. And face it, not everyone is hunting the most prime deer habitat. Those folks will simply see fewer deer. If the Wisconsin Deer Hunter on average doesn't start to see themselves as deer managers, we are in for a long hard road. I used to not like EAB also until it started to grow bigger bucks. Those guys that didn't have their doe, couldn't shoot that first buck they saw which allowed him to live a bit longer. Sure some inexperienced hunters or kids had to pass on their first buck, but through the early season opportunities, they more than likely had a chance to prequalify with a doe prior to the regular gun season.

Remember, if we don't work with our WDNR, our legislature will take over and then we are all screwed!!!!!!
