Adjam5
We had good weather out yesterday, so my 3 sons and some of their friends go off to the local elementary school to play some baseball. They finish up and my son Joe and his girlfriend get in her car to come home, and my son Joes friend, Sean takes my other two sons AJ & Mike in his car(subaru WRX). Joe leaves first and Sean a few seconds later. Joe is right down the road from the house and his friend Sean comes speeding up(confirmed by wittness') and tried to pass Joe on his right(2 lane street), hits a depression in the street, threw his car off track. Runs partially up on a lawn(losing control), missing a hydrant, side swipes a telephone pole(loses the door mirror), just misses t boning Joe driving his girlfriends car. Comes off the lawn skidding sideways, does a 180, takes out a stop sign across on the corner and the house accross the street hedges stopped the car completely. No one hurt. All 3 of my sons could have been hurt seriously in the same accident in different cars. 2 of them were in the back seat of the car that just narrowly missed the pole, skidded out and came to a halt on the hedges. Joe came close to getting hit on the passenger side dead center. My wife and I got the call and we went flying down the road to the scene. I made sure that all the kids were OK and then it hit me what a HUGE tragedy I could have had on my hands. I had to be alone a minute or two to regain my composure. My eyes swelled up with tears and I realized how close my life, my wife's life and my sons lives could have changed forever. I have been hugging them every 5 minutes since. The biggest scare I have ever had with my sons all at once! I have seen them crash on dirt bikes, get hit by walking into kids swinging bats playing ball by not paying attention, fall into thorn bushes, even minor surguries...but NOTHING compared to the feeling we went through yesterday. I had to share this because I am still somewhat shaken up. Some of you guys may have already been through this stuff, kids driving, and accidents. But my baptism on this one was by fire and I never want to feel that way again. I know it could have gotten very ugly and I am so thankful to God for protecting my boys. I can only imagine what parents that didn't get such a ending must go through. No tickets were issued and the home owners were very caring and cooperative regarding the incident. The boys will go back to the homes today and fix the lawns and clip the hedges of what they damaged. The highway supervisor lives on our road and he was heading home too. He said he'll take care of the stop sign and the town will not file suit. These kids dodged some big bullets yesterday and I hope they know how lucky there were. Oh boy how fast life can change... Now as far as the kid that was speeding...

wtnhunt
That could have been really bad. Glad no one was hurt Anthony, could certainly understand where you would be tore up over that, I know I would be. My oldest is a few years away from driving yet, kind of not looking forward to it so much.
KirkV
Well first congrats on all of the boy's coming out ok. It was very kind of all impacted to not make a big deal out of it. regarding the speeding kid we all made stupid errors when we were young drivers and hopefully he learns something from it. If it were I, I would probably try to talk to him about it and show the reality of what could have happend. Not be a bu**hole about it but get it off of your chest and let him hear it from you! GWSmith
Wow...Glad you were hugging your kids alot. They probably needed that just as much as you did. ..and Glad that your foot does not have to be surgically removed from Sean's backside:mad:
PotashRLS
Well where do you start..............Thank God! Now, were any of the kids wearing their seatbelts? What do the parent's of speedy gonzales have to say about their son's behavior. I realize it was an accident but it was extremely dangerous behavior passing on the right. I am sure he (probably all of them) learned a lesson. Good thing the car didn't roll, that gets really ugly quick. Pound one extra knot in speedy's head for me will ya. GWSmith
Pound one extra knot in speedy's head for me will ya. Yeah...thats probably a better choice than having to wash off your boot after my suggestion:o:D Admittedly I'm a little hot headed about this kind of stuff happening. I liken it to someone invading my home and threatening my family.

Adjam5
Thanks for the concern folks. Yeah I was shaken up, maybe not as near as my youngest. He was very quiet and introverted. Maybe because his side was the one that brushed against the telephone pole. I was mistaken in saying that no summonses were issued. Sean was issued a moving violation for passing on the right on a 2 lane road and a summons for driving at a high rate of speed. Sean was speechless and didn't even want to look at me at the scene. I was more grateful that everyone was OK then being angry. Yeah...definite close one for sure. Funny thing...Joe has been buggin' me to get a car on the road for him so he could get a better job with better pay away from town. Now this...ahh...little kids little problems...big kids...big problems. Yup, we were all kids once and I gave my folks a few heart attacks I'm sure. My turn to get them back. Thank you again everyone for your concern.

layin on the smackdown
Close call for sure!!! So glad to hear everyone came out of it unharmed... As far as the driver goes...i would have probably handled it differently, and made him have a quick sit down talk with my right foot... I hope the lesson here was learned by all.
