Man I hate it when people try to rip you off.....I will make this a short story.....a month ago my wifes door opener stopped working.I call up the place that had put it in and said I did not want them to make a trip over to the island just for me....so the guy shows up about 2 days later all he did was unplug it and plug it back in......it reset it self:mad: guy was there like 3 minutes....I said I told the guy to not come for just my call but he said that they had LOTS of calls that day on the Island.....anyway my bill comes they are trying to charge me 85 bucks for the trip to the island:eek::mad: so I called today and the guy asked me when I was going to pay him  I said look we have to talk about this 85 bucks....he says well we charge more because we have to pay for the ferry ride....WRONG answer!!!!! no charge for the boat ride:mad::mad::mad: so he starts back tracking....anyway his boss was not there and they will call me back next week to talk about it....I can not wait to hear what he has to say........anyway thats the end of my rant.:mad:

Stand your ground Joe. Sometimes some companies or managers will expect you to back down and pay to avoid confrontation. Just dealt with something along the same lines last week over a mistake on the part of a service department repair, they wanted to charge me for their previous failure, I did not back down and in the end they did not charge me.

Hmmm sticky situation. I'd be very suspicious also about his reasons for trying to stick you with the ferry bill:mad:.

BUT...they did come to your home and make a service call. Now whether or not we agree with the value of that service call, is a whole 'nother issue. Most service repair guys get $65 just for stepping foot in the house. If they had a lot of calls on your island, then there is no reason I cannot see you work it out with them.

Stand tall, squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Joe, three things jump out at me

so the guy shows up about 2 days later all he did was unplug it and plug it back in......it reset it self:mad: guy was there like 3 minutes....

He knew what was wrong before he arrived. Why else was it fixed so fast. There is no reason why couldn't have told you to do this over the phone.

I said I told the guy to not come for just my call but he said that they had LOTS of calls that day on the Island

Looks like "LOTS" of you were set-up today. He is obviously selling a piece of crap and now he is getting rich off the service charges. Say he visited 10 houses today, $850 isn't too bad for one days work.

anyway my bill comes they are trying to charge me 85 bucks for the trip to the island

He is scamming you guys. I would contact whatever Ministry hammers guys like him.

If this was an up-andup outfit, they would have told you over the phone to unplug it and then plug it back in!

Yep. Used to run a lot of service calls as a service manager for a satellite company with about 5000 customers. I did everything I could to help folks out, which meant working with them over the phone, and that saved a lot of driving miles and time for myself and my techs on calls that were not necessary. Amazing what with a little patience you can walk folks through.
