Lotta walking, no sheds

Is anyone in NY or PA finding any sheds yet? I went out today on a walk/ski on this old railroad bed that goes by some fields that i could see had been torn up by the deer. We still have a bit of snow on the ground even though it is melting and I thought I would have found at least one shed in the 3 fields I looked because the deer had hit them hard but nothing. Do you guys think I'm looking too early or the sheds are just under the snow? I think I probably walked/ski 5+ miles today. It was fun anyway even if I didn't find any sheds but I wonder where they are....

Re: Lotta walking, no sheds

TG,

I hear ya...I walked around for about 3 hours today and also came up empty handed. Man...the woods and fields that I looked around in are just totally covered with deer tracks and droppings. I checked out some standing cornfields and another field with something planted in it that the deer were digging up like crazy, but there is still plenty of snow around to cover up any antlers that had fallen before the snowstorm we got a couple of weeks ago. I mostly just followed deer trails and checked out areas where I though the deer would be bedding. I found lots of beds but no antlers. In all, I saw about 40 turkeys, 200+ geese, about a dozen deer and found a doe fawn that looked like it had been taken down by coyotes. I didn't find anthing, but still had a good time looking. It sure got me pumped up for March to get here so all of this snow will be gone. Good luck.

Re: Lotta walking, no sheds

Last night my neighbor found a nice set from an 8pt! grin.gif

He also got some pics back from his new trail cam. Seems a 12pt w/ 20" spread survived the season. In the same pic was a huge 10pt as well.

I think I'll do some shed hunting this weekend. Of course, Mr. 10/.22 will be along just in case.
