Goose Eggs...

Recommended Posts

Well, my first season turkey excursion proved to be fruitless...I only had one day to hunt, and one day to scout...Had a first season Coles County (east central IL) tag, went out early sunday morning and heard everything that inhabits IL with the exception of an eastern Turkey...Cows, geese, crows, owls, pheasants, squirrels, birds, even the crazy neighbor guy who yells at random...but no turkeys. I thought that i may have heard a group of gobbles, but if i did, they were in another county. Followed up the morning scouting session with a mid morning and an evening scouting session which yielded the same...nothing...

Monday morning came, and when i awoke to loud claps of thunder and witnessed lightning crashing down from the heavens, i figured life was to good to play "dodge the lightning bolt"...needless to say, we tried to wait it out, nothing changed and we were heading home at about 11 a.m.

Turkeys = 1

Dan = goose eggs

Im glad in Bama we can hunt March 15 -April 30 and no tags. We have a 5 gobbler limit.

I dont know how ya'll handle those short seasons and bad weather.

It's tough. You just hope and pray that you'll have good weather!! And you can also draw up to 3 tags to improve your chances of having at least 1 good week of weather;)

The bird in my avatar was killed on a foggy, misty, morning, but the birds gobbled good. I was really surprised!
