Tominator
I was playing golf in the field with my 7 year old Saturday, and before he hits he looks down and says "Dad, why are shadows black?" Amazing how a 7 year old can make an adult speechless.
Ohiobucks
Because the shadow of the object being cast is restricting the sun's light. Less light means things get darker. Did you set him straight?
Tominator
Because the shadow of the object being cast is restricting the sun's light. Less light means things get darker. Did you set him straight? Nope. I'm afraid my answer was "Ummmmmm, hmmmmmm, I don't know." It was only later that I thought "hmmmmmm, absence of light means dark...." I know, go ahead and say it. 92xj
A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object. It occupies all of the space behind an opaque object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or reverse projection of the object blocking the light. Tell your boy that and leave him speechless in return:D
