LifeNRA
All of you parents out there, what kind of youth shotgun did you buy for your kids? Now I figured most will be a 20 gauge, also a single shot. But let me tell you this. I borrowed a single shot 20 gauge from a friend, with three inch turkey loads. This thing probably kicks harder than my 835 with 3.5" mags! I really need to find a 20 gauge that wont tear my daughter's shoulder off!

stcif
I bought my son (13 at the time) a Remington 870 youth shotgun, 20 gauge. Yeah it kicks, due to the light weight, but is a great little gun. You can also buy a full size stock if needed in the future.

bluelund79
Bought the same gun Al did for my wife who is on the smaller framed side...Plus side is when my sons get bigger, they'll use it after the each other grows into it. When the older gets bigger he'll get his own gun and the little guy gets the 500 and the tradition continues.....Good luck in your search. You really can't go wrong with either the 870 (which I started on and still have) or the 500....

But I must decline. Not for your offer, but the thought if something happened to it while in transport just makes me feel a little un-easy. But I will also take this info about the gun and look into this as well! Now if we were neighbors, I would take up on your generous offer! Dakota
I'd recommend the NEF 20 ga. single-shot. They are excellent little guns for sure and extremely inexpensive to boot! Dakota

jesse8953
When I was young Dad started me out on a 1100 LT-20 gauge.Them I bought my own when I was 13.I saved a whole year to get it and I still have it!
Shaun_300
I'd go with a semi, John. Dad has a Remington 1100 in a 20ga and it's a nice little gun to shoot! I'm sure a 11-87 would be nice too in 20ga. If you don't want an autoloader look at the 870.
wtnhunt
My wife and oldest daughter are shooting an 870 youth model. They handle it ok, but with the turkey loads it does produce quite a bit more push than the rifles they deer hunt with.
JimT
We use a Youth 870 20 also. Nice gun for sure. Would like to upgrade it to a semi 20 though. Maybe next year.
waterfowler
I bought my son a TriStar and he is 10 years old. He loves it. It hardly kicks. The gun is a semi-automatic.
