layin on the smackdown
went down the drain.... Started watching "River Monsters" a few minutes ago, and they stated that the alligator gar now only inhabits the lower eastern states...BBBBBBBBBBBBBSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! They said over the last hundred years or so, this fish has been denominated to those lower eastern states such as GA, FL, MS, AL, and some parts of TX... Tell me this...how does a fresh water fish all of a sudden become extinct from fresh water lakes above the mason dixon line for no apperant reason...even when the lakes are contained??? I have caught two in the last 14 years...one in the Kaskaskia River in IL, and one in Powers lake WI... Where can i send my complaints to??? this is total BS! thanks dan

Maybe send them a letter/email with facts that you have caught one in a Northern state. Is this show produced by Animal Planet or is it produced by someone else and just airs on Animal Planet? Could be that someone else has their facts wrong here Dan. Playing the devils advocate.....I know.
Turkeygirl
Are you sure there just aren't some different sub-species of the Alligator Gar?? I don't know much about them but hey....no one is perfect......not even TV...
wtnhunt
Well, I am here to tell you that we have them here. And they are nasty and get pretty dadgum big too. As far as the shows credibility, I don't give much if any credibility to anything I see on TV. It is what it is, for the most part entertainment. HUNTINGMAN
I seen where the KDFWR are wanting to start stocking alligator gar in the land between the lakes area here in KY.Man that would make one heck of a fishing challenge. Where can i send my complaints to??? this is total BS! thanks dan are you sure you have alligator gar? Also how many type of Gars are there? The gar we have and that I see in the swamps of South Carolina and North Carolina are gar that have the long very narrow mouth. I have never seen a gar that had such a rounded nose like the pics from Texas. There has to be more than one species of gar and maybe that the "alligator gar" is only found is those states, but the "other named gar" is found in your area. But I have no idea, thats why I am not on the animal planet. I just know that I have never seen a round nose gar, but have tons of the long narrow nose ones. Just something to think about
Texan_Til_I_Die
Alligator gar is what I posted pics of. The other type is named, appropriately, long nosed gar. The long nosed gar is more common and doesn't get nearly as big.
