Police Exam on Saturday

Well, I'm taking my first ever exam for a police department on Saturday at noon. I am starting the ball rolling on my career path and hopefully this one goes well. I have the physical test at 12, then if I pass that, I will take the written test later that afternoon. I've been studying for the written test and feel pretty good about that, my main concern is the physical test. I consider myself to be in pretty good physical shape, but I have not been able to exercise like I would have liked this semester because of school, but I still feel pretty good about it. I will let everyone know how I do when I get back on Saturday!

Wish me luck!!:D;)

what line are you going into?? Im a Deputy Sheriff in my county and just finished school this March. State troopers do a different class from us but I had a blast at school. You get paid to learn something and have fun doing it. The worse part was OC day.... Dont make me go into detail about that. PT will be as hard as you make it. You sound as if you are in goos shape so it should be easy. Even if you arent, you will be by the end of the class. Its amazing watching everyone grow and work as a team throughout the class also.

My best classes were firearms of coarse and driving;) DT was fun also, but you get so sick of doing the same move OVER AND OVER! All said and done, I miss it and would gladly do it over again... well except OC day!

goodluck!

Crazy, this is for a city police dept. I am doing it to get my foot in the door and get some experience testing. This department also has a great starting salary, good benefits, and they provide you everything but your weapon. I have a friend that works there as well and he told me all about OC day at the training institute this dept sends you too. It did not sound like fun, but I'm dreading taser day even more! Eventually I want to get into the IL State Police.;)

we never did the tasers since our department doesnt issue them. It doesnt make sense because they tell us we need to know what it feels like to be sprayed, just incase someone turns our OC on us. Well we carry glocks, but yet they dont shoot us just to see how it feels LOL.. I think they do it just for fun. But seriously, the OC is ok. It felt like a damn frying pan was stuck on my face for a good 15mins straight. We had to say our name and call for backup after being sprayed and talk about not finding words. It took me 20 seconds to spit out 3 seconds of words. Then they send you to the water to wash your eyes and man does that feel good! but you can only stay in that for 1-2mins. The quicker you open your eyes the better. Also, find a breezy alley or somewhere where the wind is blowing into your face because that helps! But it will be over with before you know it. It seems like its not gonna stop burning, but in about 30mins you start getting better then you laugh with everyone about it. The funny part are the pics they take to show everyone at the end of class. Needless to say it was still a blast, but i'd pass on doing it again for fun LOL.

im doing the same as you.. i just got my foot in the door. I farm full time still and work for the department 2-3 days per week. Im mainly just serving papers and working the court system now which I actaully like since you get to have a life back at home. Im not big on working night shift. If you have kids and etc, you miss out on some things. Later on, I might go full time but as you said, just get a foot in the door

Kyle, when I went up for the highway patrol my physical involved first a mile and a half run in under 12 minutes. As soon as we got done ( literally ) we had to do 40 sit ups, then straight to 40 pushups, then straight to a 1/4 mile sprint in under a amount of time I can't remember. It sounds easy but with no breather inbetween I assure you I was ready to die after the 1/4 sprint. Best of luck, I know you'll do it!

Best of Luck to you! I have been a Deputy Sheriff for 15 years. One thing is for sure no two days will be the same.

After 33 years I agree - no two days will be the same and you won't find a more personally rewarding, or challenging, or frustrating career.

You'll have a blast in the academy. Training is invaluable and never miss an opportunity for it. But, then go back to the streets and listen to the guys who are actually doing it.

Good luck.

#1 we have to do a sit and reach and get 1 inch past our toes, 1.5 miles in 13:46, 98% of our body weight in a 1 rep max bench press then 37 situps in 1 min. I'm positive I can do everything except the sit and reach. I've been stretching, i'm just not a very flexible person. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone. I'll be sure to update y'all on how everything went!!

goodluck #2, how many are in the class or training with you?

Not sure Ben, it's not training, it's physical and written test to determine if they even want to hire you. I talked to them at a career fair up here at school, liked what I heard, sent in an application and got a letter saying to be there tomorrow at noon for the physical test.
