Bow string wax?

I came across an article in one of my magazines, talking about alternate materials to substiture for brand material. (For example, there were several suggestions for making your own scent control) One guy mentioned using beeswax instead of buying bow sting wax for his longbow. After a while his bow had a horrible smell. Whatever he used to soften the beeswax apparently deteriorated.

It matters what kind of bowstring you have.

Beeswax works fine on Dacron strings.

I think you're only supposed to use a silicone based wax on Vectran or Spectra(Dyneema) based strings. Beeswax is not recommended for those strings. (ie. Winner's Choice, Zebra...)
