jesse8953
It was raining hard when when I left to take my step-daughter to school:mad:.I had my camo pants on, a black t-shirt and a white pair of nikes on.I was going to go home and go back to bed, but on the way home I thought I would drive by the property I hunt:rolleyes:.I pulled in the lane and saw 5 or 6 birds and one was strutting:eek:. I parked the truck where they couldn't see me.Put my camo coat on and my mask and gloves that were in thre truck.I ran down the creek bank out of sight and popped up on the edge of the bank and he was still strutting.I put the 870 on him at 40 yards [i thought, it was later stepped off at 48 yards] and after I shot they all ran but the tom. He flew about 10 feet high and 10 feet away then dropped.I shot again and he walked off like nothing happened. He walked through a feild then I lost sight of him when I climbed up the creek bank. He disappered!I walked throught the field and saw a clump with a red head sticking up.I was 25 yards away and the #5 winchester 3 1/2 did the trick. The hole hunt lasted about 5 min. After hunting hard the 1st week,I finally got some luck to go my way;).I took him to the taxidermist and after he dries out, I will make my mind up what I am going to do with him. A flying mount or just a cape, tail and beard. The pictures were taken after I changed my shoes . They were wet and muddy:o. Now I am off to walmart to get another tag:D. 9 1/2 inch beard 19.6 lbs and 3/4 spurs:). Not the biggest bird but it is my 1st:cool:.
