Turkeygirl
How early do you hit the woods in the morning after spring turkeys? How early do you suggest I hit the state land in the morning on Friday? I was thinking up at 4:00am, leave the house by 4:30am the latest, probably before...should be parked shortly before 5:00am....I dunno if I should be in earlier because of the chance of other hunters? crazyfarmer
I only hunt private land so I dont have to worry about others beating me there.. I would say to be safe, maybe get they and park by 4:45 maybe? No later than 5... The earliest gobble ive heard this season was at 5:50, but normally they get thundering around 6-6:10am. But to be safe, i'd say 4:45 since im sure others are thinking the samething you are. I will say its a PITA trying to beat others and it really takes the fun out of it. I had one farm me and another guy could hunt and I could never beat him there. I swear he left his truck overnight there. Getting up ealier and earlier trying to beat someone to a spot takes the fun from it and plus you tend to fall asleep when hunting LOL always have a backup spot planned;) goodluck also

Strut10
All depends on the situation. Last 2 mornings I've been trying to get in on a bird pretty tight. He's roosting in some big woods that's like a golf course underneath and there's another gobbler and about 8-10 hens roosted around him. I've been in and set up by about 4:45 -4:55. Early.......yes. But any later and I'd get busted because of the visibility the birds have. There's always the possibility of the hens being in the tree I'm setting up against. Otherwise, I'd be out about 5:15 or 5:30. Earlist gobble here right now has been 5:38. Your location may vary. Always better too early than too late. dbHunterNY
A little after 5 AM. I'm right there at my hunting location and it takes about 1 - 2 minutes to get up on top or to the other side of the hill (some may think mountain). Dakota
Well, I live about 15 miles from my spot and will be getting up @ 4am tomorrow for my final time out before the season ends. Usually I leave by 5am, get out there by 5:30 and get set up right as the first trace of dawn hits the sky, but tomorrow I will be gone by 4:30 at the latest and get set up well ahead of time and give the woods some time to settle down. Good luck, Ruth! Dakota
