Re: HOW MANY HAVE USED A SHOTGUN FOR DEER HUNTING ??

Have considered using my shotgun for deer hunting, but never have, kind of hard to give up the .270. Might try it next year in some areas where I have only short range shots. There is not a shotgun only season here and also buckshot is not legal at all.

VA is a little messed up. In Prince William County you can use an inline muzzle loader with scope, but NOT a slug in your shot gun. Buckshot is all they let you shoot. In the past I have harvested deer with both slugs and buckshot. My preference is bow and muzzleloader, but will use the shotgun at the end of the season.

Re: HOW MANY HAVE USED A SHOTGUN FOR DEER HUNTING

I use it every now and then. Depends on where Im hunting at. Over corn the muzzleloader gets the nod. But if Im in the woods(generally pretty thick) or hunting during a drive, then the shotgun and multiple shots gets the nod.

dosnt really matter what gun Im shooting as they all shoot brenneke's well enough to kill out to 75 yards and thats all Id ever ask out of the shotgun. I dont use a scope or rifled sites. It is much easier for me personally to shoot at deer moving or in tight cover using a bead.

In Connecticut, on State owned land, it is shotgun/slug only. I have 2, 870's. One scoped , one unscoped that I hunt with.

I just got my TC Encore set up with a 12 gauge slug barrel, and 2X7X33 Leupold vari-X2. Can't wait to shoot it. The Encore will be the only gun i hunt with this year.

Hunting Shotgun slug season for years in SW MN -- took a lot of deer. But the season is only a couple of days, so I talked my brothers/Dad into switching over to the ML season (16 days) and not near as many pumpkins in the field if you know what I mean.

I have used shotgun with slugs with success in the past. My county stipulates that you have to use shotgun with buckshot or you can use a muzzleloader. I will take the ML anytime over the shotgun. When we do deer drives we all take shotguns with buckshot.

That's odd wtnhunt, usually it's vice versa with slugs being illegal. Around here you can use basically anything you want but on the public land I hunt it is shotgun only.

Been that way as long as I have hunted here. As far as I know there is no buckshot allowed for deer hunting period in the state of Tennessee.

Page 8 of the Tennessee handbook reads

"3. Possession of shotgun ammunition loaded with more than one solid ball is specifically prohibited while hunting deer, bear, boar or feral hogs"

Re: HOW MANY HAVE USED A SHOTGUN FOR DEER HUNTING ??

I have a dedicated slug gun just for deer. I use a H&R Ultra Slugger Deluxe 12ga topped with a 3-9x50 Tasco World Class scope shooting 2-3/4 Lightfield Hybrids and hold half dollar sized groups at 120 yards. When I sight in my new ML this summer i plan on shooting the slug gun just to see how it compares to the ML at 150+ ranges.

Where I hunt in NY rifles are not allowed so I use a shotgun. This was my first year gun hunting and took my first deer (Button Buck) at about 40 yards with and open sighted Mossberg 500.

We are limited to shotguns w/slugs, muzzleloaders, or pistols in Illinois. I've killed a lot of deer with a shotgun over the years but prefer to use my muzzleloader.

I hunted for a few years with an Remington 870 12 gauge, last year i picked up a Remington SP 20 gauge with cantilever barrel and put a scope on it. I was shooting the Remington CoreLokt slugs and had signted it in dead on at 150 yards, shot my doe at 80 yards and shot my buck at 150 yards. I'll be using this gun for a good long time.
