My son Codie received his letter of enrollment at Berea College in Berea,Kentucky. He received a 4 year scholarship of tuition at a school with a 29% admission rate. They have him in the database as a incoming freshman for the 2009-10 year with his own email account and etc.

Yahoo!!! for my son. Right now all we will try to come up with in funds is mainly for books.

Congratulations to your son.

Berea is a good liberal arts College.

It is rare that young people in this day and age would even want to attend a college that is tuition free for all students, does not allow students (other than seniors) to have vehicles on campus or even in town, and requires each student to work in one of their departments for 10 to 15 hrs. per week without pay (other than their tuition).

When he is finished he will know how to weave a tie, or other fine material, he may work in their crafts department, or clean floors, but he will have some kind of experience other than simply standard studies available at most colleges and universities.

Tell him good luck from all of us here at realtree forums.

I still have a lot of ties to Kentucky, but when I was young, you couldn't have paid me to go to college there. I chose the Navy instead.

Back a couple months ago I was real worried about Codie's future. Trying to figure on how to pay for furthering his education. Then I got laid off. It looked like it would be the community college close to home(Whichh would have been cool since he then would have did the respiratory therapist program.) He then received scholarships and grants(and a loan) for the 1st year at 3 others colleges.

He also dismissed a recruiting call for one school for wrestling.

He had applied to Berea once he found out about it and then wanted this place most of all since it would be 4 years if accepted. He did all the hoops and hurdles and was getting positive response. He had put off answering the calls the 2 others had placed to him wanting to know. Since we checked and discovered it only had 29% admission rate we waited and waited for the official letter.

Now there are more things to do. We will be going there in June for stuff he has to do.(LOL I think they set us up in a room)
