Tim Andrus
Well today was opening day of Turkey here in New York. After a un-productive morning ( 1 jake ,few hens and a stubborn long beard I headed home..... On the way home from my parents land I saw 2 gobblers in a field just down the road ,knowing who the land owner is I stopped and asked for permission to give them a try. The landowner said go ahead but its a huntclub and if a member is parked you cant go in. I said Ok .... So I drove down the road no vehicles went in and tried a few calls but birds had moved on. So I walk back to the truck and there is a truck blocking me in. As I get closer this guy starts taking my picture and yelling your on private land.. I said I know I just talked to the landowner and he gave me permission . He says your a liar . And I said no I have permission from Mr X and he said it was ok to go after the gobblers. And if someone was here that I couldnt go in. Well he wouldnt listen or anything then the local NYS DEC officer shows up .. Well the member told his story and I told mine. We then couldnt get ahold of the landownwer so the member went to his house. After minutes they both show up Thankfully he said yes I told him to go ahead but if someone was here not go in. I said yes thats what I told them. Long story short even though the owner told me to go ahead he had to get with other members and get their ok.....I didnt know about that all in all it was straightened out .............I shook the landowners hand said sorry for the mixup and shook the members hand too,but he was clearly still hot under the collar. Sometimes even though you go in do the right thing it can come back on ya . I think Ill stick to my land from now on, not worth the headache

buckee
Man, that sounds like a rough and embarrassing morning for you Tim I'm just sorry you had to go through all of that. Embarassing more than anything else eh, especially having the game warden show up too...Geesh. Hey ..Happy Huntin Tim
total disaster
really glad I don't have to deal with this sorta thing. I told Alisha if I had to deal with this kinda headache I would most likely loose my drive to hunt
RangerClay
Wow Tim that is too bad. I'm sure it was very embarassing. Will we se this on next years All Stars of Spring! :D Just kidding. I had someone try to run me off some land about 10 years ago. After meeting Mr. DEC I won but it left me VERY rattled and I'm sure that is how you feel now. woolybear
That blows, but I can understand if they are paying club members. Been in your shoes, oral permission just doesn't cut it anymore.
Tim Andrus
My main worry was that the landowner seeing that he made a mistake would back pedal on me. Thankfully he didnt ! But your right Ranger leaves you rattled . And also helps I kinda know the Dec officer from having kids messing around on our property. So all in all Im sticking with my own and forgetting the headache
Orion_70
WOW.. talk about an Ooops!! I have a question though and maybe I'm wrong, but if the owner leased the land to a hunting club I don't think he can give someone permission to hunt outside his immediate family.. I guess it all depends on the lease contract though.. anyway.. Glad it's all straightened out!!
stevebeilgard
just one of those cases where no one is in the wrong, but feathers got ruffled anyway. that's too bad. the real problem to me is that a good day for hunting will leave a sour note on lots of peoples minds, and no one did anything wrong. wow. Muff
As soon as the land owner said someone else hunts it you should have drove on....J.M.O. I have ran into that before...a none hunting land owner rents out his place to hunters for the season......then someone comes and ask if they can do a quick hunt??? not being hunters they see no wrong in it so they say yes.....now we as hunters know if we rent the land we should be the only ones hunting it....but some owners don't get that.....oh well now he will know to say no to the next guy that stops in. toddyboman
Just think how rattled/heated the guy would have been if you had a big ol long beard over your shoulder!!!!:D Regardless one headache we all can do without....

GWSmith
Sorry that happened to you Tim. Like you said it was a misunderstanding and you know those will happen from time to time. This piece of paper below is in my truck completely filled out and signed by the landowner(s) wherever I hunt and it helps prove I'm not trespassing. If they dont sign a copy each year I dont hunt there:

ruttinbuc
I am glad the owner didn't back pedal on you also, Tim. Something similar happened to me years ago on a place I asked for permission to hunt.
Tim Andrus
Kyle In my younger days, before Realtree. Things would have been different. But now working for a law enforcement agency and being in the public eye I had to bite my tongue. If I would have hit him it would have cost me Realtree, some consequences at work if I was arrested for assault So I just let it go
JimT
I guess the one good thing about hunting/living in Maine is we do not have to deal with all the cutthroat land issues. If someone ever blocked my truck in they would find their truck upside down in a ditch. The hunting is better in most states then Maine, so I guess thats the trade off. Something like that anyways.......
