Turkeygirl
Went out this evening...walked over to check a field with manure in it. I slowly round the corner, hiding behind some pine tree branches and out walks a turkey in the field down below me...I swear I saw a beard on it and bow it's head and neck are really blue/grey in the sunlight...but I wasn't sure. I disappears behind a hill in the field. I wait then sneak up to peak over the hill...I pop over and see it in the manure feeding then it goes into a strut for like 2 seconds! I crashed to the ground and belly crawled backwards up the field till I was way over the hill then ran to the other sided to hide on a corner....last I had seen he was feeding back towards where he'd walked out...i didn't see any hens...maybe I didn't see them, but I thought he was alone! Well I waited then it got almost dark, headed back home. Stopped in the middle of the plowed field, hooted on my owl call and GOOBBLEE comes from the ridge on the other side of the plowed fields and old gravel pit! So he crossed back over to roost on this ridge...which is like the highest ridge probably on this land...same ridge some hens were at a couple weeks ago...So I'll be out in the morning and set up.... Should I take a hen and jake decoy or just use my hen? Also, should I set up above or below this bird? I know there's a logging trail that leads off the ridge and back out to one of the fields...so I was thinking of setting up below him...2 years back I missed a gobbler off this ridge, he roosted on top, flew down and landed on the side then he and the hen came up to the top....I dunno, but do gobblers have a preference? Though if he's lonely, either way I'd think he'd come:D Here's to hoping and praying for an exciting morning!
Hoyt03
id only take a hen decoy and setup close to him same level if possible. Might be a quick morning for you, but like they say roosted aint roasted. Goodluck i'll be looking for the victory pics.
