mike13candace
Turkey season is great.. Tics are nasty in the Northeast.. I had a tic live on me a for few days.. Tried to remove it today, could not get all of it. The little bugger bored his face into my skin.. Trip to the local hospital for my once in a life time Doxycycline pill.. m gardner
Good you got medical help quickly. I ended up very ill from Lyme disease. That's why I live out here in the desert now. Better for the arthritis I suffer now because of it. I used to live in Bennington, Vermont. mark

WHISKEYSWAMP
from what I've been told the best thing to use to remove tics is vaseline... it'll cut its oxygen and will crawl out. also spray permanone on your clothes regularly.

hammerforged
Lyme disease is not fun and unfortunately unlike Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, once you have Lyme Disease it just makes it that much easier for you to catch it again. I have become extremely "Anal" about checking myself for ticks.

Better for the arthritis I suffer now because of it. I used to live in Bennington, Vermont. mark I am currently being treated for Lyme Disease. I wouldn't wish this disease on my worst enemy. My Mom also has it. I have been sick since Feb. 2008 and it wasn't until August 2008 that I finally figured it out on my own:mad::mad: (Friggin General Practitioners are useless) and got help from a Lyme Literate Doc. I have been on Antibiotics since as well as vitamins, Anti Yeast Nystantin for my guts and Probiotics. I now added an Iron supplement since my last blood workup showed me to be a tad anemic. Hindsight being 20/20, I feel I had a couple VERY minor/general symptoms for as long as 6 or 7 years before the disease really took off ! I hope I get better but I feel it may be God's plan for me.......to help educate people about a terribly underestimated and uninformed disease. I am so glad you went to the doctor. I have become extremely "Anal" about checking myself for ticks. My understanding once you have lyme's if it is not treated shortly after you get it, it is there forever. Bad thing is that symptoms may not be seen right away. If it is caught late and treated the symptoms may still give you problems for the rest of your life, and in most cases the damage is irreversible. Very nasty disease from a very nasty bug. Cannot be too cautious when it comes to ticks.
stevebeilgard
ticks are ugly little buggers for sure.
crazyfarmer
better safe than sorry with the pills also... from now on im going to get those no matter what if I find a tick siezed on me anywhere. I always shower as soon as I get back home now from the woods, plus I leave my clothes outside in case some got on them. No reason bringing them into the hosue for the kids
sskybnd
yea they can get bad around here in the spring and summer, the seed ticks can load you up thats why you always take a shower after going into the woods.
Adjam5
I'm glad you got it Mike and hope it won't effect you much. I swear by the Thermacell. We have been in the woods often and no ticks so far.
pendog
8 ticks on me so far this turkey season, worst i have ever seen it here in Pa and NY. My wife got bit on our honeymoon and got lymes, she took the medicine and seems to be ok now....sometimes joints are stiff on the leg she was bitten on. Go to the doc and demand the antibiotic if you are bitten!
