Ticks Are Out......Lyme Disease Question

I have Lyme Disease and am struggling to get a handle on it. It has ruled my life since February of 2008 and to date has cost me/my insurance over $50,000 because of uneducated and sometimes ignorant General Practioners and Mainstream Medicine. Lyme Disease is so easily brushed aside, even by me at one time, that it is most often missed and left to resurface later on in life where it may be impossible to eradicate. This Disease can slowly kill you by taking your "life" away from you and quite possibly your family and friends.

Please click on the link below and learn a little about this terrible disease. It just may save your life. Many of you could have it right now and not know it or have been dismissing it as something else for a long time.

Pretty sure RTF's father(wishinone) has lyme's disease Tracy.

My stepfather among many other health problems also supposedly has lyme's disease, but he has so many health related issues most likely related to agent orange exposure in Viet Nam and his troubles really seemed to all come on around the same time making it kind of difficult to really know which diagnosis were accurate.

It really is a shame that ticks and mosquitoes were not eradicated with the flood. Those two nasty bugs have been leading causes of illness and mosquitoes a leading cause in deaths around the world for quite some time.

Bad thing is like Steve mentions when you have other physical health conditions you may write it off as associated to that. Fatigue and chronic pains go along with so many other diseases especially heart related. Also easy too to dismiss the symptoms when there is no test that can accurately guarantee if you do or do not have it. Far as the physicians go I can relate there too.

I am really sorry to hear you have lyme's Tracy.

I'm so sorry to hear of your sickness.:( I have so many of those symptoms, it ain't funny, but mine, as far as I understand are related to my Cancer, heart troubles and medications.

I was amazed to find out that if left untreated, Lyme can cause serious heart issues. The problem is that doctors would never in a million years suspect Lyme as the culprit.

Any one of us could have it and not know it, especially considering all the outdoor recreations that we love to do.

very sorry to hear about you and lyme disease. there is simply so much about diseases that doctors don't know. but, they are working on it.

Lyme Disease is a hugely controvercial illness between doctors and that is impeding the progress for better treatment. 50% of people with Lyme don't get a rash or bite site. If you can't produce a bite, nearly all General Pracs won't treat you early and then you are screwed. Even here in Wisconsin and other states where Lyme is prevelant, doctors are not actively looking for it:mad::mad::mad:. It is a huge disservice!!

Sorry to hear about your illness Tracy. :( I personally have heard of a few in our area over the years with it, but only know of one friend personally, but as was mentioned earlier, he had so many other problems that it was pretty much brushed aside. Personally I think he was a hypochondriac, so that did not help my perception/appreciation of lyme disease. I printed out your info, I've already pulled about 4 off me this year, and my girls have picked up their fair share as well. I look forward to reading it, thank you for sharing.

I had a big scare with this stuff 2 years ago. I took a nice buck and when i hauled him out on the ATV I believe a tick got on me. Later that night I found the critter on the underside of my arm siezed. I removed him and didnt think much of it. Then 2 months later my wife asked what was that HUGE bruise on my arm. Whatcha know, I had a golfball size ring around the place that tick was. So I went to the doctors and they drew blood and put me on the medicine right then. The blood tests came back negative but the doctor said this stuff shows up in cycles so its possible I had it. They said normally if its caught early enough it can be stopped. Im not 100% sure on that. I know I did feel odd during that time. I was 27 and was getting tired really fast while working. Maybe it was just ironic. Knock on wood, nothing has gone wrong since I took the pills for a month.

its scarey stuff and one of my friends has this. It effects him at certain times of the year more than others.

I personally dont have it...I dont think (fingers crossed). A friend of mine had it many years back, at least the doctors think he did:rolleyes:. Well they treated him for it and the symptoms went away, so it may have been.

Sorry to hear of your situation, stay strong and beat it bro!!

I HIGHLY recommend that everyone use this during tick season, not just necessarily while hunting either. It does stink so it may not be deer friendly but for sure where it while out chasing turkeys!!

This stuff works great. Ticks will still crawl onto you, but not nearly as many, and they REALLY dont like this stuff and usually get off of you. I would be cautious about using it on childrens clothes(??) read the directions

I'm still doing okay. I got it about 16 years ago. It did damage to my joints. Same with my nephew who's 23 now. My other nephew seemed to get over it but he got treatment immediately after they noticed the rash. I get nondescript ailments they can't figure out and treat with antibiotics and I get better for a year or two. It's not for the weak that's for sure.

As I said in the other thread, it is NO fun. I got it 12 years ago and wasn't able to get treatment for about a month, didn't realize that I had been bitten until the "Bullseye" showed up and I was in Prague at the time. I still have trouble with my hands cramping up on me and every once in a while my back muscles will seize up and start spasming. The only thing that helps when that happens is total bed rest and Flexerill (anti-spasmodic). I was in Portland, Oregon for the West Coast Blade Show 3 years ago and my back seized up as I was walking across from the hotel to the Convention Center. I layed there in the street for about 10 minutes before someone came along to help me back to the hotel and called an ambulance to get me to the Emergency. Spent the whole week while in Portland in the bed in the hotel but I had the best show I have ever had, several of the other makers took turns manning my table for me.

That is the nice thing about turkey hunting, you can load up on the deet and they still won't smell you:D Of course the deer smell ya and stomp and blow like crazy. Anyone have experience with the Thermacel and ticks? I know it works well on mosquitos and such.

Biggest problem there I would think would be that most ticks(here at least) are usually picked up on the move, especially in tall grass. Unless you had one of those holsters and had the thermacell on all the time, would not think there would be much chance it would help for ticks.
