My heart was broken

I felt really bad this past weekend when my 8 year old reminded me of something.

Back around October/November my wife and I were talking about getting our son a XBOX 360. So we ended up telling him about it and he was super excited. We bought it a few weeks before Christmas just as an early present (which is something we do every year for him). He knew the day we were supposed to go pick it up and when I picked him up from school that day he asked me if we went and got it. Well, me trying to be a prankster, told him no. Didn't expect the little guy to bust out in tears but that's exactly what he did :o:(. Yea, I know, what kind of guy am I right?!?! Well I after seeing him cry that day I told him we did get it.

Fast forward to Sunday, 5/3/09. He and I are in the living room getting ready to play Guitar Hero (which I still am no good at) and out of the blue he reminds me of that day when I made him cry. :(

Talk about feeling as tall as an ant. :o

I said yea son I remember, and he laughed about it but I still felt horrible.

Kids remember WAY more than what we think!! Watch what you tell em. :o

I feel you. Two weeks ago, I was laying on the floor in the boys' room ready to read bedtime stories to Ben (5) and Isaac (2). I am laying right by the door and Isaac is up running around like a wild Indian. Ben goes out to throw a kleenex in the garbage, and as he is running to the door, (unbeknownst to me), Isaac eyeballs the open door and starts to go for it. I looked at Isaac and started to push the door shut just as Ben tries to squeeze through the opening. Did I mention that the door knob is the same height as Ben's eye? WHAM! The serious impact was more a function of the speed of the kid since I was closing the door very slowly, which prevented Ben from noticing the door closing on him. Either way, he ended up screaming and crying and with a pretty big shiner. I felt SOOOOO bad. I am hugging him and telling him I am sorry, and he looks up at me with welt growing before my eyes and tears streaming down, "It's OK daddy, I love you."

So, yeah, I can empathize.

Don't worry, when they get a little older, the shoe will be on the other foot.

Yesterday evening my son wanted to work on his pitching, so we grab the bucket of balls, a folding metal chair, and the gloves and head to the ball park. After warming up, he gets on the mound and I take the plastic bucket of balls and sit on it behind the plate. Well sitting there with my legs sticking out, I have trouble getting the glove down for the low balls and he lets loose a fastball that is coming right for my left leg. I dive out of the way, the ball hits the plastic bucket and knocks a hole in the side of it. When I dove, I landed on the hard dirt, on my legs, wearing shorts, and scratch my leg up bad enough that I had blood running down it.

Now the bucket is no longer usable as a chair, so I grab the metal folding chair and sit on it. (Yea, slow learner) Well it wasn't too long before I got another, not as low fastball coming in right between my legs. You see where this is going don't you? Well luckily it was a couple of inches low and hit the front of the seat of the folding chair and left a good dent in it and had me thinking what shape I would have been in if it would have been a couple of inches higher.:eek::eek: I probably still wouldn't have been able to write this.

After that I said the heck with my bad knees and got down in a catchers stance where I could handle all of his pitches without getting hurt, other than my knees. So don't worry to much about the minor dings to your kids now, they will pay you back when they get older.
