Bowtech_archer07
Even for those of you who don't like the Cardinals, it looks like Rick Ankiel could definitely use some help from anyone who can offer it. He just went headfirst full speed into the wall going for a catch. His neck snapped back and he hasn't moved for about 10 minutes. I don't know any details as this just happened, but it definitely isn't looking good right now for the guy. I really hope he is gonna be ok. I'm sure there will be stuff on ESPN and the Cardinals website as soon as they know somethin....
Bowtech_archer07
Check that, he waved as they were carting him off the field. I hope that is a good sign.....
toddyboman
I was watching the game on TV and when it happened it looked REALLY bad:eek:.....but according to the cardinal website it sounds like he should be ok.... According to a statement the club released late on Monday night, Ankiel underwent X-rays and a CT scan of his head, neck and back, and all were negative and showed no fractures. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said that Ankiel had movement and feeling in his arms and legs, and that according to the team's head physician, Dr. George Paletta, Ankiel never lost consciousness on the play. A club official said that Ankiel checked out as "neurologically intact" both on the field and at the hospital. "He was never knocked out," Mozeliak said. "He never lost consciousness. My understanding was that he had some discomfort in the face area, obviously, from hitting the wall. But for the most part right now, we're encouraged based on Dr. Paletta's first [evaluation], just getting to see him on the field. http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090504&content_id=4559854&vkey=news_stl&fext=.jsp&c_id=stl
