Turkeygirl
Went up behind the house last night to try and roost that bird....no luck....wasn't expecting to get a shock gobble anyway...nothing seems to shock gobble to anything this year. Got up shortly after 5am this morning, walked up and sat on top of the old gravel pit....heard nothing....thought maybe I'd heard a distant gobble but not really positive... So now I'm discouraged, second guessing myself, wondering did the gobbler run off then die somewhere? (I kinda doubt it but that's me and my brain), or did someone else come in betweenMonday and now and kill him? I did see someone else's boot track in a swamp, but I think they came off another road a ways a way... I'm hoping maybe this morning was like a few of the other mornings so far this year which consists of no gobbling activity. Maybe I just lucked out that morning he gobbled his head off.... I'm going to try getting up tomorrow morning and sitting on the other side of the ridge, to see if I can hear anything...but man, I'm starting to not have fun, not cool:(
JimT
Birds were quiet here yesturday. Could not really get anything going. Heading out in a few. Was out in the boat yesturday late catching many a trout, and it was raining this morning at 3:30, so I slept in. Haha. Keep your head up Ruth. It'll happen..... WHISKEYSWAMP
The birds were quiet here the first two weeks of season as well... The last three mornings there has been a tom gobbling his head off on the roost down the creek form my house. I could have shot him yesterday and today but saving it for my buddy who hasn't shot a bird yet this year... I'm after the bearded hen I seen this morning and Monday. the hens are starting to nest around here and the gobblers are becoming more active searching. Hope you get on one soon!
