Ohiobucks
Scored on a nice Ohio long-beard this morning. The fog was thick when I left the house this morning at 5:00am, and I was optimistic about my chances. I've had luck in the past when the weather wasn't picture perfect. I went to the farm right behind my house, I chose the same spot I was at last Thursday morning where I had shot at and missed a bird. Missing a tom really sticks with ya, let me tell you. After the swing and miss, I stepped it off and he was just a bit out of range. Fast forward to this morning, I decided to bring along a hen decoy and set her on the logging road in front of me. At 6:05am, 2 close birds started gobbling at everything - hens, crows, woodpeckers, trucks going down the near by road, everything. I bet they gobbled 40 times from the roost. I was setup within 60-70 yards of their tree, made a few soft yelps only to be cut off by their gobbles. Then I heard the hens fly down and they started yelping a little louder. I matched them almost note for note, one tom flew down toward the hens, the other one flew down my direction. He landed within 40 yards of me, gobbled once, and hit the logging road. He spotted the hen decoy, and literally ran in. 15 yard shot at 6:30am, and it was all over. Thanked the Good Lord for the bird, packed my gear up and was back to the house by 6:50am. 22 lbs 9" beard 1" spurs Edited May 6, 2009 by Ohiobucks

Ohiobucks
Sweet, gotta love having the rest of the day off to do some chores! Was back at work at 9:15am. Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be honest, if all the hunts were like this one (short and sweet) I probably wouldn't enjoy it near as much as I do. Don't get me wrong though, I'll take them as they come!
