c_lou
We are planning a extended weekend trip for the family to Chicago. The kids want to go to the Shedd aquarium. My question is what else is there to do for a 7 and 4 year old? We are planning on going down July 8 - 11.
gzilla45
The Shedd Aquarium is a must. That place is unbelievable. There is the Field Museum, and the Museum of Science and Industry which are good as well. I believe they have a Harry Potter exhibit running through September. They also have a U-boat right now but I'm not sure how long it is staying. Navy Pier should be bustling by then as well. There are plenty of beaches too if you just want to get outside and relax along the lake.
Master_Chief
Navy pier would be awesome for you. We took a bus tour of the city, don't think the little ones would enjoy that tho. Sears tower gives some awesome views if you are into that. The Cubs are in town that weekend. Really recommend sweeing Wrigley once in your life. stevebeilgard
lots of good advice above. you must see the sub at the science museum. it's the one the movie was made of, u505. we not only got the sub, but we got the code machine running the entire 3rd reich. that one machine won the war for us, as we knew every move the germans made. JJL
Go to the 9 Steakhouse............... I believe that it's in the 400 West block of Kinsey Avenue. Order a 24oz. Kobe-Waygu Ribeye steak. I personally guarantee it will be the best piece of meat you'll ever eat. Leave the wife and kids back at the hotel, because with drinks and dessert it'll set you back about $240 per plate................but it sure is GOOD........... The Sears Tower is a MUST-SEE. Just make sure that you go on a day when the Taliban is flying near-by. Shedd Aquarium/ Field Museum/ Navy Pier/ Grant Park are all Downtown lake front attractions that are easily walkable or only a short cab ride away. Lots to do Downtown. Pretty secure and safe. Enjoy your trip.

Hoosierbuck
The Art Institute, while a little ho-hum for the kids, is quite impressive if all the above doesn't fill your weekend. You can always go to Daly Plaza and have your own miniature pro-gun rally, but make sure you see all the stuff you want to see before that. If you go to Daly Plaza, stop and say, "Hey, right here is where HB proposed to his wife!" Grant Park and the fountain are going to be in swing then, and make sure you check out the dates for Taste of Chicago. You don't really want to be there for that. Blues Fest would be good, though. billkay
Eat pizza! There isn't a better town for food, particularly pizza, anywhere! Try either Ginos East or Pizzeria Uno's. Both are in the downtown area. Grant Park and the lakefront are pretty cool as well.
Mach1
Get out as quick as possible. Been there and don't like that place one bit.
HOYTnMUZZYboy
There is tons of stuff to do in the city. Take the train tho. Watch out for crazy people. Don't go driving in areas far from the hotel at night if you drive. You can go from good to bad in a split second. Lots of great ideas already said. People are not friendly in the city just a warning ahead of time. O ya and they drive like there on a suicide mission.
