Turkeygirl
Went out tonight...as I started across a field to the gravel pit, saw a turkey way out in another field, actually a field I saw the gobbler in one evening. I thought for how far away I was, it must be a good size bird. Anyway thought I heard some birds fly up where they'd been last night but no gobbles. Around 7:30pm I head over to that other field to try my owl call. I get over there, give a hoot and GOOBBLLEE! He's roosted in the woods near the field! So now I'm trying to decide how to set-up..I made a little picture for you all to see. Dark brown = plowed field White = corn field I saw him in tonight Yellow square, where I heard the gobble from light blue square = where they've been roosting before, maybe some hens there tonight? Small blue squares = decoys Light brown line = dirt road leading into gravel pit Light green = grass field (where he was last night) Set up #1 = is on a corner, I got a jake there one year....I would be well hidden, only downside is he'd probably come from behind me if he comes in but there is thick brush right behind me so he'd probably come out to the left or right Set up #2 = large maple tree island...maybe 15 feet of field between this tree and the wood's edge..I thought maybe hiding there and sticking the decoys out in between Set-up #3 - Maybe more parallel to where the bird is roosted, but I think it might be a trickier set up and less concealment Anyway would appreciate some input..Should I set up in the field or try to get close to him? Hen and jake decoy or just the hen? I suppose it's possible the bird is the jake I saw last week, but any bird that gobbles is fair game;)

HuntnMa
I'd probably go without any decoys....let him come looking for you.
