JimT
Which broadheads would you reccomend for a 40# Hoyt Kobalt shooting Beman ICS Hunter Junior arrows? I am up in the air on 85 or 100 grainers? Fixed or mechanical? Jim
crazyfarmer
its a candy factory of products out there.. My personal favoite sin each style are Fixed: Slick tricks!! Deadly and the fly pretty true to fieldtips! Try them if you havent Mech: Rage 2 or 3blade. I shoot the 3blade 100gr and love it! Out of about 12 deer, none have been loss or gone farther than 75yards on a good shot. Massive wound and blood loss goodluck
Guest Finn
When my son was shooting a 40 pound bow, we used Magnus Stingers with great results. Cut on contact was great with the lower draw weight. I'd recommend checking them out.
fly
I was watching a Drury video and they went with a fixed blade with small cutting diameter when shooting with low pounds. I believe the diameter was about an inch.
jumper_89
My fiance shoots a Hoyt rintec at 40 pounds and she shot her first buck with 2 blade NAP spitfires. She got excelent penetration at 30 yards. I was a bit weary of using a expandable with 40 pounds of draw weight, but they performed great. Wish they still made them.
rhine16
I would suggest going with a fixed head. A G5 Striker or Slick Trick ought to do the job.

You still get a 1 1/2 cut and they work great with lighter poundages. Otherwise, my girlfriend shot the Strikers and so did I. She only pulls 35lbs and the arrow zipped right through her deer at 15 yards.
Straight Shooter
75 grain muzzy, not that I'm biased or anything.

craig mack
I would not use anything other than a cut on contact broadhead on a 40# bow.
dbHunterNY
I'll check it out tonight.... That's the first I've heard of something like that. I will have to check it out, as well.

Squirrelhunter91
Cut on contact would definitely be the way to go. I'd personally go with either 75gr 3 blade Muzzy's or 85 grain Slick Tricks. I've killed deer with both and can't complain! The Slick Tricks I used were 100gr though.
PotashRLS
I would not use anything other than a cut on contact broadhead on a 40# bow. I'm with him!!! Two holes is still better than one big one, especially when hunting from a tree.

Slash
RAGE Broadheads has designed a new broadhead that is meant to be used with bows with lower kinetic energy, mainly for women and children. But it's called the 40-KE and aside from the engineers testing it I have not heard anything about how it performs. It is a 2-blade with a cutting diameter of 1.5" So if you're familiar with the RAGE product line you'll see that it has the same diameter as the 3-blade in the the 2-blade design. They are not out on the market yet but they will be shipping VERY soon. If you do decide to go with the 40-KE please let us all know how it works for you. MichiganHunter
I think any mechanical or fix that people give positive reviews for, if you go with mechanical dont go with over the top style ie(napa spitfire, i like the heads just loose alot on impact) i would say for mechanical, rage are prob the best bet with fixed go for g5 or muzzy they are both great products and go light as possible and get that arrow speed up, 85gr are great.
