Turkeygirl
still got away:o Set-up this morning on the corner....this is what I did wrong though...heard a gobble, thought it came from the ridge off the gravel pit, hauled everything all the way back over there, get set-up and gobbles ring out - he's back over near where'd been first, where I'd heard him last night! Well I decided to stay by the gravel pit for a little pit, as he was basically roosted inbetween the two fields. A lone hen came through. About 8:30/9, I decide to go back over to my original set-up on the corner of a corn field with manure that I've seen him in a couple times. I get there and move slowly, about 10 feet from the tree I was going to sit at, I peek over at the far side of the field and there he is in all his glory showing off for his one hen! I duck into the woods edge, crawl over to my tree, then I crawl back deciding if I can get him to see the decoys, maybe. Nope.....he was so busy strutting....I got the hen to talk back to me but she never came...she'd start to come then turn and walk back....Eventually she went off along the far side hedgerow and disappeared behind a hill. I moved down lower in the field but they disappeared into thin air. There was a small hump in the field so she maybe dragged him into the woods behind that. So will he/she be back? I'm hoping to roost him tonight again, but the weather doesn't look to great tonight- showers/thunderstorms, wind gusts as high as 30-40mph, tomorrow scattered showers, wind gusts as high as 30 mph. Monday and Tuesday will be nice weather days though:) So if I can't hear them roost tonight or weather is too nasty to get out, I dunno about the morning...if it rains, would I be better off to go out and set-up in a field? I dunno which one I'd set-up at though....there's the corn field he was in last night and this AM, but also the gravel pit field that he was in the other night...sooo...kinda depends on where he roosts maybe...I just hope I can pull everything together soon and nail this bugger! So should I keep after him or take a night/morning off?

fly
"This guy has been kicking your butt huh...... " Seems like they are playing you. Might want to try some different tactics? I wouldn't even worry with decoys (unless you go somewhere completely different). Think I'd just pick a good spot where you think he'll likely be at some point, get there before daylight, and stay put (would call light and only about every 30 minutes).
