VermontHunter
Come out here and tell that to all the oilfield workers that are now out of work. That's why we have had two layoffs, and now a cut in pay. Yeah, oil prices are up somewhat, but drilling activity is WAY WAY down........ And not looking to improve anytime soon! Rig count in the US last I heard was expected to be around 900 actively exploring. Why would I need to tell them that Exxon / Mobile is drilling in Alaska Jason ?? It's just a printed fact that I / millions have read . http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/exxonmobil/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&ndmConfigId=1001106&newsId=20090422006577&newsLang=en http://www.baltimoresun.com/business/sns-ap-us-exxon-point-thomson,0,1960818.story As for the layoffs and cut in pay ,, I'd be willing to bet NONE of the executive positions saw any of that .. .. Here's what makes total sense ,, Oil reserves are down according to the oil industry, but they cut production .. wonder why that is .. Hhmm it wouldn't be to the fact to drive oil prices up unnecessarily would it ?? Sure seems that way to me and millions of others. There's NO more of an oil shortage, than there's a water shortage on this planet ... it's all a money game at the expense of the hard working middle class worker .. and that's just my take on it .. layin on the smackdown
heres what i will never be able to comprehend...We have a serious economic issue at hand, its affecting everyone...We have an idiot as president who is supposed to try and fix, or at least help the situation get better...Well if gas prices go up, the less people have to spend, and the worse the economy will get...not to mention unemployment...I am fortunate that i only live 2 miles at most from where i work, however, when gas was in the $4's i remember hearing alot about how some people couldn't afford to get to work... Someone shine some light on these simple facts and amuse me by justifying why high gas prices = good...im a roast, baste me...
VermontHunter
i remember hearing alot about how some people couldn't afford to get to work... This is a real biggy ,, especially with me ... I have to travel almost 60 miles a day back and forth to work ,, and it has to be done with a very nominal paycheck .. retail work doesn't pay anywhere close to what most jobs pay ... but it's steady reliable works for the most part .. But I do understand where Jason is coming from tho ...

I really don't care what is goin on in Alaska, but maybe we can get in on that. I care about what is going on HERE, in the areas we operate in. Come here to Oklahoma and tell us that people are actively drilling. They don't drill, we don't work, and guess what, we ain't working. Go do a search for the daily rig count. I know one of our competitors has shut down a facility close to us. There have been layoffs industry wide. As for the cut in pay, and your comment on the execs, how much you wanna lose? I just got the announcement, and it is US wide for the company I work for, for ALL employees.
VermontHunter
That's exactly my point Jason ,, if there's a stock pile shortage, why aren't they drilling ?? It's simple, supply and demand, cut the supply and the demand goe's through the roof and they get what they want on the market for it, at the expense of you and I ... What needs to happen is the US needs to biuld it's own refineries, and do more domestic drilling ( keeping you and your friends working ) then we could dictate what our supply and demand quota's would be .. NOT the middle east and south america .. Maybe I'm wrong ,,, All I know is that my wage isn't meeting the over inflated economic times .. and higher gas prices just to make the fat guy richer isn't helping the matter any .. Add another 6 cents on the gallon as of this morning .. thats .31 cents on the gallon in a matter of days ... I know things could be far worse .. but I need something to squak about .. fly
Hey Gary glad to hear of your lung improvement since you stopped smoking. Way to go partner! Gas is going up here in IL., but no where near what it was last year. This time last year it was almost twice what it is now. I anticipated it to go up as demand is always higher in the summer, but hope it doesn't get near the 4 dollar mark again. I guess we will see. Accordding to AAA it's suppose to top out at about $3.00 a gallon this summer. NO where near what we saw last summer ( I pray ) but we'll have to see what happens I guess .. Months ago OPEC said they wanted to cut production to drive up the cost, they said it needed to be back up over $100 a barrel. Lots of people have not been paying close attention and the prices have been slowly climbing. Rather than alleviate the problem of our foreign dependence by tapping our own natural resources, the liberals Obama included would like nothing more than for us not only not to expand our oil fields where we could potentially be self supportive, but also to reduce all domestic oil drilling. Don't know why American owned companies would be cutting back drilling right now other than to increase profit margin by driving the price up, of course if they were producing more it would seem they would also be selling more which would also result in more profits since the demand is obviously there. There are too many gas vehicles on the road for consumers to just go green. We will be dependant on oil for many years to come, not very realistic to think otherwise. Drilling more at home and expanding our oil fields would not only help us economically in more ways than one, but would also cut off a huge source of income for some of those opec folks who really hate us.
