redkneck
Ok, so I'm behind the times bad. My battery in my old 8mm is all crapped out and i want to step up to a digital. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not looking for high dollar, high def stuff, just a good camera for family use that won't break the bank. Thanks in advance. woolybear
I didn't spend much time shopping around, but I thought this one was a steal for the wifes b-day a few weeks ago. Very practical, so much so that I can figure it out. Best part is, Wally World had them on sale for $159 compared to their msrp $250. Bet they still got some. wtnhunt
Those jvc's are supposed to be pretty good cams. I compared to them and considered one before buying my sony. Don't think you could go wrong with either or even with a canon. Would help to know how much you are willing to spend and what format you want(minidv, minidvd, hard drive). I hear that the minidvd's are more difficult with editing, but have no first hand experience with them. The cam I use is minidv tape. Been very happy with my sony. redkneck
Well, William, I'm not even sure what format I want. Like i said, I'm behind the curve with my old 8mm cam. I got a JVC i bought at work that takes the minidv. Seems like a decent cam, but i didnt like the software that came with it. As for the money, I just like to get the most bang for the buck, but I dont buy the top of the line on electronics, It's not worth it to me to pay double the money for a little more technology that will be standard next year. wtnhunt
Kind of depends on preferences some I guess. I am kind of parital to sony cams. Nothing against others out there as there are a lot of other good options. Minidv from what I understand is or was pretty well the standard for the pro's, don't know if the hard drive cams are taking their place or not. I use a sony minidv, been very happy with it. The cam I have was upper end consumer grade when I bought it, now they have cams that are hd in minidv for just a little more than what I gave for mine. If it were me and I could swing it, I would look really closely at the sony hdr hc9. Have seen this cam for under $700 online, sony lists it for around $1100 in their store.
