hey, i am hunting turkeys for the first time this year. I planned on buying the new remington model 870 SPS-T thumbhole stock shotgun. but they are to hard to get. My second choice was gonna be a 835 Mossberg Shotgun.

My question is what shotguns are good. Also i wish to have a 3 1/2; 12 guage shotgun. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks confused.gif

all you are going to get with this question is some(not all) people telling you what they shoot or like. what you really nead to do is shop around and fell them all . give them all a swing and go with what fits you best. WHAT WORKS FOR YOU WONT WORK FOR SOME ONE ELSE. i have rem. sps-t , winchester 2uper x 2 3/12 , mossberg 935 auto and 835 along with rem express. they are all good guns. just depends on what im hunting for. good luck and tell what you came up with.

kracey, it all depends on if you will use your gun just for turkey or if you will use it for other hunting. for just a turkey gun i would say an 835, 870, or even the benelli nova. if you want an allaround gun still the 870 will do you or a benelli SBE if you really want to fork out some $$. me personally, i shoot a beenlli M1-90 and love it. i do anytpye of hunting with it as far as birds( doves, quail, ducks) and even parttens great for turkeys!! hope this helps you some.

I prefer a Rem. 870 over any Mossbergs...I would even look at the Win. 1300. There really isn't any bad guns out there, just have to handle some and decide what you want. How the gun fits and personal apperance is more important than the name on the side.

Yup i have the rem 11-87 havent missed a 60 yard shot yet...of course this is only fall hunting and too eliminate some of the hens!. Kinda irresposible but if your guns patterns for that distance y not shoot it?

Not "kinda irresponsible"............ just plain old "irresponsible". mad.gif There's not one excuse for taking an "irresponsible" shot at a turkey or any other living thing. And 60 yards is irresponsible.

Many of today's high-performance turkey setups will print "killing" patterns on paper quite a bit farther than the retained, per-pellet energy will reliably seal the deal on a living, breathing turkey.

Yeah 60 yards is way too long even for Bill Jordan or any other hunter. You might end up injurying a Gobbler/jake and I gurantee you that, you wont be taking anymore long shots. Remember we should respect the game we hunt. Don't go out there and injure them.

A clean kill is better, than a wounded turkey.

Good luck and Congrats with your new gun kracey and good luck this spring.

I bought a Mossberg Camo 500 pump last year for 220.00 dollars at walmart last year. I then purchased an pistolgrip stock from cabelas for about 80 bucks. It carries and looks alot like the benelli for a lot less. Shot one time last year at a turkey and it went down quick at 50 yards. Awesome set up.
