RangerClay
My son Nathan turns 5 in June. He would like a cowboy gun like daddy's. I would like to get him a lever action toy rifle or side by side toy shotgun. But here is the catch, he is not mature enough for a bb gun so I would like to get him a toy gun that shoots darts, balls, foam, or whatever. I have found tons of cap guns but nothing that shoots ammo. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

stevebeilgard
what do you mean, too young for a real gun. i got my grandson a 410 shotgun when he was 8 months old. yes, months. good luck with the cork gun.
Straight Shooter
Hammer got his first BB gun at 5, it was the daisy Buckshot lever action and great fun to shoot. It's the one the BB's are loaded into the muzzle end of the barrel. He has upgraded to a 1100 fps pellet rifle now along with his muzzleloaader, .410 shotgun, and 22 rifle. Personally, I don't think 5 is not to young for a BB gun if he is totally supervised which I'm sure he will be. The spring recoil let's him get the feel for a gun and shooting cans or targets let's him see what damage a gun can do. JMO

I never said he was too young. I said he wasn't mature enough. There is a big difference. All kids grow up at different rates and Nathan simply isn't responsible enough for a real gun yet. Maybe in another year we will upgrade. I found a really nice lever action rifle on the web site Steve gave me that will fit the bill. BuckNrut
Joe, I've got an 11-yo that isn't ready yet to shoot, so don't feel bad. At least he likes video cameras and want's to video some hunts this year.

Straight Shooter
My bad, you are right there is a big difference between old enough and mature enough.
mrswtnhunt
Bass Pro and Cabelas have the types of toy firearms that shoot foam balls. I got my son the pump shotgun and the compound bow...Hes almost 5. Our 3 year old loves the bow that shoots foam balls. She likes to aim at my butt (hope I don't get in trouble for saying that). She laughs so hard when she makes contact. Her aim is actually not too bad and she is 3.
