bluelund79
Interesting replies. Gonna be fun choosing...Went and shot them both again today...If I was single I would've bought them both and been done with it...But single military income/wife/2 little boys doesn't allow that choice to "buff out"...Decisions, decisions.... Chrud
Chrud, a mathews wont take a dry fire..........a hoyt will take a 1000. Yes, the bow will. The string will not. I've seen four Mathews bows get dry fired. The greatest damage was a splintered limb, and the other three only had the string fail. I'd like to see someone take a Hoyt off a shelf and dry fire it 1000 times. I bet it (the string) doesn't make it past two or three.
Ohiobucks
I'd say if the only thing that fails after 1000 dry fires is the strings, then Hoyt has engineered the Alphamax perfectly. If a dry fire ever happened to me, I'd rather be stuck replacing just strings instead of strings, limbs, cams, etc. ****cough, cough, I love Hoyt, you love Mathews, cough, cough ***
hutchies
Chrud, a mathews wont take a dry fire..........a hoyt will take a 1000. I don't see your point in stressing that. Yeah a Hoyt will take more dry fires than most because of the split limbs. I guess if you have a habit of dry firing you need a hoyt. I haven't dryfired one yet, knock on wood, but I have seen 3 Switchback XT's dryfired. String jumped the idler wheel. I pressed and put it back on. I put it back on and their pins never even moved. They pulled it back with 3 fingers while I wasn't looking and "accidentely let it go". She still shoots great, but I don't leave the bow out anymore. No damage done except my Meta Peep squished into a oval. That was ok though cause I was going to a bigger size anyway.

HUNTINGMAN
you must have just started shooting bows I'm guessing, cause the AM is barely wider, if any than the switchback. I have been shooting bows since I was seven years old and am now 34.I know enough about them to know what I am talking about.:mad:I bet if you ask my buddy I work with what he thinks about the new alphamax he would give you an answer that would break your heart,he had a brand new one off the shelf that had never been shot blow up on him when he pulled it back and it about took his head off. Hmm perhaps glasses are needed then. Use the frowny face on someone else dude. Brand new off the shelf....and it blows up huh? Thats insane. Bet Hoyt sent him a brand new one ASAP. You can argue with me though til your blue in the face......the alphamax is the best bow on the market now for an all around bow. Sorry for rufflin yer feathers there bud. ILAntlrAddct
First off, The AM Vs Reezen is like comparing apples to oranges like others said. The Reezen is more in the speed class of bows while to me the AM is just a great all around bow that fits more in the hunting category. With that said, I have shot both and also own a Alphamax 32. In my opinion, the Reezen shot great but obviously you are gonna sacrifice a little bit of draw smoothness for speed. There is a noticable hump towards the end of the draw for the Reezen, as expected. I have been a mathews guy after recently owning a SBXT, however in a hunting bow I look for smoothness, lightweight with speed. To me the Alphamax is that bow, it is very smooth draw and actually is not too far behind the "speed" bows to begin with. Hoyt claims 321 IBO and most are getting 10-12FPS faster then rated. The only drawback of the AM was there Is a slight bit of handshock after the shot but I seemed to get used to it and not notice. Ever since hoyt went to the thin limbs, it has dramatically lightended up their bows. They used to have the most bulky limbs and the bows felt like a boat anchor. Id say go shoot both and see which you like best based upon what your use for it is, then you will know.
Tom2008
Yes it was an alphamax, those limbs are just to wide,it may be were they are split limbs that make them seem that way but they are way to wide. So whats the big deal if it's too wide? What does a whole 1, 2, or 3/8 of an inch matter?

I just want to add that by shooting a really light arrow with a certain poundage will make the bow seem like it has a vibration also. Shooting the right weight for the correct draw length and poundage will help reduce vibration. Not saying that you aren't shooting the right arrows, but just adding another point. hutchies
To tell you guys the truth this whole thread is retarted. Whoooohoooooo Hoyt has the hot bow THIS year. Where have they been since the 90's..............Mathews , Bowtech, and even PSE have been kicking out hot bows for years...............Hoyt puts out one and every Hoyt shooter comes out of the woodwork saying I told you it was the best. Who cares? When it reaches the sales that the Switchback line did come talk to me. Oh and what you guys are still missing is it is only the best in your hands. I know a certain Hoyt shooter............cough cough KAT..........that was talking about buying an Elite and a PSE Bow Madness not too long ago. hutchies
Hmmm........??? Whatever............This is the kind of BS these threads start. Dude you know my post...........I ain't a mathews, hoyt, bowtech, pse or anything else shooter................I'm an archer. I shoot because of my love for it. If you guys want to try to stroke your ego by saying you have the best bow then jump on it..................... If it were up to me this thread would have been locked a long time ago. It's funny to me when guys shoot bow for years and it's the best ever made but as soon as they change brands it is junk..........there's nothing better than my bow.......Yada yada yada. This is a great thread to show why as hunters we will never be able to stand on our own legs to fight against the Anti's............We can't even stop arguing between each other. I know a certain Hoyt shooter............cough cough KAT..........that was talking about buying an Elite and a PSE Bow Madness not too long ago. Yup I was thinking about getting a bow madness to play with, and the elite was because I got 400$ to blow with a gander mountain giftcard. I won that 400$ shooting a hoyt . As for the thread being retarded and what not, the guy asked for his opinion and we are giving it to him. No harm no foul there bro....besides most of this convo has all been in good fun the only one who got offended was you. It's all good buddy, you'll have ya an alphamax soon and will be happy again :D . Come over and lets have some brews to relax ya a lil. Seriously though, shoot what ya want and what you like. As long as your happy, thats all that matters. I'm all for shooting recurves

Gator
Are you willing to bring your bow up and let me throw you a $1 for every time you dry fire your bow? :D I'll add a $1!!!!:D I shot a AM 35 think it was, or a 32, doesn't matter, I DID NOT like it AT ALL. I was even "open minded" when I shot it. Heavy, hand shock, didn't like it at all. Wish I had my SB back truth be told!!!!! Have yet to shoot a Reezen, so I can't comment there, but from what I been told, the Reezen does have a harsher draw cycle, but that's where it get's it's speed from. I did shoot a MONSTER, and WOW!!!!! Fast, smooth, and SWEET!!!!

Along the same line though, Chris' Switchback XT has zero hand shock as well.
