Feel free to add other options!

Lets call him a GIANT 200" buck after official scoring.

A- You get him mounted and shut your trap about your big buck meca propperty you took him from and show off your mount when questioned

B- You contact every hunting media possable in hopes of becoming famous

C- You post a pic here and call it a day

D- You wanna see your name in the book to be considered amongst the elites so to the book he goes

E- You saw of the rack and put it on E-bay

F- You gut it, eat it, and throw the horns in the shed outback:D

C for sure. D as well, but not because I want to be considered "amongst the elites". I don't see the book as elites, just a cool club IMO. ;)

I would consider myself blessed. I would never mutter a peep as to the location the animal came from. Not blabbingwould be hard but guys would cut your throat to hunt the lucky piece of land. Your hunting buddies might throw you under the bus. So be carefull. As for B/C or P/Y, thats a tough one. I think the answer is in the reason we choose hunt. I would not.

Couldn't have said it better myself Tom.

I'll also add that I entered my B&C book typical in B&C and P&Y because the deer deserved it. Like rangers28 said I was just blessed with the opportunity. ;)

JMHO but if you're trying to kill a booner because you want to be considered amoung the elites, you're hunting big ones for the wrong reasons.

BTW...welcome to the forum rangers28.

Typical or Non-Typical ?

A- You get him mounted and shut your trap about your big buck meca propperty you took him from and show off your mount when questioned

Definitely get him mounted and show when asked after some time has passed to see what kind of hassles are associated with the whole situation.

B- You contact every hunting media possable in hopes of becoming famous

I would not have to contact anyone as I'm sure the grapevine would spread the word fast enough if this Buck is a "Record Breaker". A deal would be made to help my family and children have a better life. This would be considered a gift to my family and not to do something to benefit my family with that gift would be wrong.

C- You post a pic here and call it a day

Definitely...and take geusses as to how long it would be before someone cried out "It's a fake it's Photoshop, Photoshop I tell ya look at the hairline,etc.,etc."

D- You wanna see your name in the book to be considered amongst the elites so to the book he goes

He would only be registered in the books to prove to the people screaming "Photoshop" that it has been certified and even X-Rayed to prove it's real.

E- You saw of the rack and put it on E-bay

No...but I would consider having an armed gaurd with it whenever it left my sight(which would not be often) so that does not happen if someone stole it from my home.

F- You gut it, eat it, and throw the horns in the shed outback:D

Oh sure...like all the other record breaking booners I've shot in my lifetime:rolleyes:darn things are all over the place out there it's so hard to walk around anymore:D

as much as everyone wants to say they would just call it a day and not do much I don't believe it. Once word gets out, and it will, there will be no keeping that secret. As for me...call me selfish but I'm going to make some money on the deal. My take is that a deer of that caliber from my state needs to be recognized not to mention is would be worth somewhere in the $100,000 range and that kind of money can buy a lot of different hunting trips.....

Depends on if it was typical or non-typical.

Typical: (Given it is a New world record 200 inch whitetail) ~ Don't tell a soul. Take it to the best taxi I could find and have him/her swear to keep it a secret. Have a full body mount done. Once the taxi completes the work, I'd pay the taxi and have it stored in a secure/safe place. Then spread the word that a new world record was harvested (only the state mentioned). I'd possibly have one picture of it (from a distance and fairly poor quality) circulated. The picture would have to stir controversy as to the actual size. Then after a while arrange and publically announce an official B&C measuring followed by an auction. Invite cabela's, Bass Pro, the Dancing Queen, others with a lot of coin.

Start bidding at a million or no sale. Take my fortune, get the heck out of IL. and buy a place up in the mountains. Hunt all big game animals (not just whitetails).

Non-typical 200 incher would be different story...

More like C and D.

How so? Do explain.

As a meat hunter myself, wouldn't mind wrapping my hands around a set of horns like that at seasons end.

Book bucks are a rare encounter for alot of folks.

The sucker would be made famous on the internet hunt sites I visit but that would be about it.

Even though I'll shoot a young'n from time to time, the allure and adventure of a rack like that are the dreams we all go into season with.:D

The way I'd present myself after the kill may be dull compared to some.

Guest Primetime/IL

C&D

Around here in IL you could not get "famous" for shooting something that caliber due to the quality of bucks that are taking statewide yearly that size.

With archery gear you would if it was over 204 4/8 inches.

C & D

A few years back we had a booner run off our property and another guy shot it. The next year we spent most of opening day chasing trespassers off the property. The morons lined up around our border waiting for another monster to show up.

Its fun to shoot a booner but don't tell people where you got it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well by then word would spread, but I'd show my whole family. All my uncles and family helped my dad a little to turn me into a life long hunter, so I'll share it with them. I'll even get a chuckle out of my younger cousins sitting right where I said I shot him for the rest of the season: Despite he's not there anymore, but in the back of the truck. I must say though one of my priorities would be to get it on here.
