turkeydude
Just bought some Apple Flavored salt licks and about to put them out! I used them last year and gotten several pics of deer using them. Anyone else use the salt licks a lot?
redkneck
I just use the regular old mineral blocks. Also we put loose minerals in a few trough feeders around our property with some protein pellets (no hunting over them). Last season I saw more deer hitting salt blocks than I ever have in my life, dont know why.
wtnhunt
Trophy rocks in my experience have been the most productive minerals, not sure exactly why. Have used all sorts though, just replenished this site with deer cain and a trace mineral block about two weeks ago. This mineral site has been in use for a long time. turkeydude
Hey wtnhunt! Thats a very cool pic! Thanks for sharing!
dogdoc
i just use the red trace mineral blocks. Bury about 1/2 of the block--within a month (with good rain) they have dissolved into the soil. Right now it looks like a 5 foot mud hole.
Strut10
I make my own concoction with sacked white salt, red salt and di-cal. I've only had limited success with the deer working the licks. Not sure why.

Not sure why. Near a well used trail or at a food plot edge works really well Don, helps to have a water source nearby too. Only reason for lack of use I would think might be if the deer are getting minerals naturally somewhere or from someone else putting minerals out for them. Guest Finn
The deer have really started hammering out licks in the past few weeks. We mix up our own stuff. Made 300 pounds for $70 this spring That commercial stuff is way too high priced for me, well over a $1 a pound
