LifeNRA
Many years ago I started fly fishing for bass, poppers, divers, and such. I got away from it. This guy I work with has been talking about all the fish he has been catching the last few weeks. Since I have a few Cabela's gift certificates, I got a nice but fairly in-expensive rod outfit. Been out twice, and had a blast fishing this mountain stream for wild brookies. Last night I took my father and my daughter, and my niece. These fish were going crazy in this small creek. The bugs were huge, but don't ask me what they were! LOL! I believe they were some kind of mayfly. They were brown with a slight yellow belly, big wings, and a forked hair like tail. I had something in my box that kind of look like them. First cast, BAM! Had a nice 12 inch brookie. Sorry, I don't trust carrying the camera while wading just yet! But ill post up some pics later! What a relaxing time!
Dakota
Man, that sounds like fun! I've been getting back into it too...except...I have to go 300 miles or so to get to the nearest trout stream! I need to get a good rod, but I've been practicing my casting with my Flueger and am doing better. I didn't fly fish last year but the year before I had a 5lb. rainbow swim between my legs while fishing Sylvan Lake in the Black Hills. Been getting back into a lot of traditional things lately: fly fishing, muzzleloading, traditional archery and trapping. Dakota
fly
I've never been passionate about fishing until I experienced fly fishing for trout. Nothing in the fishing world I've experienced compares to hooking a trout in a mountain stream or lake. Glad to see you're getting "hooked". Nothing in the fishing world I've experienced compares to hooking a trout in a mountain stream or lake. Glad to see you're getting "hooked". I been fishing for trout since I was old enough to hold a rod! But as I got older, bass fishing was what I like to do the best! The opening days of trout season never had any appeal anymore. But this is different! Something struck me about this! I really enjoy being out in the mountains, and this is just another way to do so! muggs
sounds like they were mayflies or maybe a duns. that sounds like a blast, i've been wanting to head to PA to fish for browns and brookies for the last few years but i just haven't had the time or the extra cash to throw down on a little 3 or 5 weight rod. right now i have a few fly rods but they're 7 and 8 weight and they just wouldn't work for those smaller trout. you should hit up some of the steelhead streams this fall. PA gets some major crowds but if you do your research and don't mind a little walking you can always get some free space.
Shaun_300
Sounds like a blast John, I flyfished a couple times, I should get myself an inexpensive outfit like you did and do it a little more often.

For a $100, I got the Cabela's Three Forks combo, it came with a four piece #5 weight 8.5 foot rod, Cabela's Prestiege Plus reel, weight forward #5 line, and backing! This is a awesome combo. I know there are better rods, but this the best offer I seen.

When it comes to reels you can spend a fortune if you let yourself, but you really don't need much. That should work out nicely for you.
