Rhino
Give up all hunting for 5 years? Giving up just deer hunting would be hard enough! No way...he gets a pass. Gotta have my quality time in the woods year round whether it's scouting or hunting whatever critter I choose to pursue. Like others my hunting is a part of me. It's not the pursuit of a monster buck that creates my passion for hunting. It's the whole experience.
Turkeygirl
NO WAY! I've given up intramural soccer games at college and what not to go hunting...I could never give it up...I'll pass and take a 150" buck...lol

mike13candace
I would shoot the 200" animal "with my camera" LOL Could not give up hunting for five years...my camera is always with me..part of the enjoyment. I would agree ..very tempting..
wtnhunt
In a heart beat. If I could hit him, he would be dead. Then I will simply spend the next 5 years trying to get my son one that size. Heck, I enjoy opportunity to share my son's successes & failures in the field as much, if not more than my own. So yes I would take it. Funny how that works isn't it Jeff. Great feeling being with your kids in the outdoors, was fortunate enough last year to get some priceless moments captured on tape with my oldest daughter. Nothing makes me any more proud than watching my kids accomplish their goals.
craig mack
I would in a heartbeat!!! It would drive me crazy to not be able to hunt but I would concentrate on my sons hunting and I would become a fishing fool!!!
Dawg
He'd be one dead critter! I can always go fishin!!
Nut
Truthfully first thing that comes to my mind is who would make such a deal with a scrubmaster like me. So the question to me is would I make such a deal. My answer would be determined according to the terms set forth. But to pigeon hole a answer I would say no at this time. Randy
I would not think twice before putting the Alphamax to work. A buck that size is a once in a lifetime chance. As much as I believe there is sooooo much more to hunting than the killing I could not pass that up. So, when it happens, hook me up with a camera and I'll go video for RT for the next 5 years. That gives me the chance to still be out there and capture the moments on tape that we all live for.
layin on the smackdown
Id have to let him go....i would go mentally insane if i couldnt hunt for 1/2 a year much less 5....my happiness isn't worth 200 inches of antler...It'd be nice, but it aint that nice... bluelund79
I'll take some photos and picture myself pulling the trigger, but I'd let it walk if I couldn't play for another 5 years....However, the question remains-is it all types of hunting or just deer hunting? That could make a difference to some.
Strut10
200" typical.................. toast. I could take up golf or something else for 5 years.
buckee
My one question to you all: You begin the season this fall (with a bow, gun or whatever). A 200 PLUS whitetail walks out for an easy shot, BUT you have a deal where if you take this unbelievable trophy, you give up all hunting rights for 5 years! Do you take that shot? S OK, who did I make this silly deal with anyway ?? That's what I'd like to know. :D:D If I made it with my wife.....maybe we could re-negotiate :D
Adjam5
Well, I have been buckless in gun season since 2001, so since I am already waiting 8 years for a good buck, would I still lose the right for 5 years? Any credit for time served? I'd shoot the big 'un...and videotape my sons hunts.
Dakota
Now if I could still trap and fish I'd go ahead and...:D:D Now that's an easy one...NOPE!!!! I love hunting waaay too much. Plus, I already got a 260" brute on the wall...granted it's an elk! :D:D Dakota Edited June 3, 2009 by Dakota
snapper
200" typical.................. toast. I could take up golf or something else for 5 years. DITTO! I'd still go hunting...just with a camera! If its not about killing...then why not stop killing for 5 years to put a buck of a lifetime on the wall? I'd go out hunting with my brother or buddy's...sitting in the stand with them or calling in a turkey without a bow/gun...would still be great memories! He'd be on the wall for sure!!!!!!!!! redkneck
Man, what kinda question is that? I'd shoot him, he's more than the buck of a lifetime. I can take up knitting for five years when I'm not out in the woods goofing off or fishing. I think a harder hypothetical is when the guide is with you and confirms the buck will cost you $15,000 (which is not out of line for many outfitters for an animal that caliber). Some of you may can write a check for that, but mine would bounce quite quickly.
ruttinbuc
The question is a hypothetical one which I believe has to do with logic.. A what if question. When you look at the odds of even seeing that 200 inch whitetail in the wild anywhere, you might have a better chance of winning the lottery. To kill that same animal takes up the odds considerably. They say a Boone and Crockett buck is one in a million and that is a 170 class animal. No sir, I would not hesitate for a second to take that animal IF and that is a huge IF it ever would appear in range of me with a weapon of the season in my hand. This instance would in no way be about the killing. For sure it is about the hunting for that one chance that 99.9% will never experience in the first place. Tom2008
I would take him and then work on getting my younger sister into archery and hunting. She has always wanted to do it and I'd love to take her out. I could video Kelsey for those 5 years too.
Guest Finn
I'd shoot him. 200" bucks are so rare. I've missed hunting seasons in the Air Force, I could miss them for a once in a lifetime buck. Then I'd focus on videoing my family hunting
Texan_Til_I_Die
I wouldn't hesitate for a second. Heck, that's what trophy hunters (which I freely admit to being) live for. And I wonder just how many people who have said no way would change their minds if that 200" buck actually did walk out in front of them? I doubt if there are very many people here who have ever seen a live 200" buck anywhere. I dang sure haven't seen one during a season when hunting, and I've only seen one that wasn't at a deer farm. Rhino
Chances are a deal like this would only be made with your spouse. If the deal applied to not shooting a 200" deer on someone's property and you did anyway...it wouldn't be a 5 year loss of hunting rights, you would never be invited back. You might get physically abused too before you could get out of there. That is if the deer wasn't taken away from you for violating someone's trust. Word would get around real quick that you were not someone that could be trusted. I'm not going to violate someone's trust over a dang deer no matter how big he is. That's another reason why I said I wouldn't in my 1st post. Essentially this deal is not a realistic case at all unless you were crazy enough to make it with your spouse. Assuming these size deer probably don't exist where you hunt, the only way you're going to make this deal is to get your spouse to turn loose of the $ to let you go hunt places where those deer are known to exist. Like TTID I've seen one 200+ class free ranging deer on the hoof in my life and that was while bowhunting in Iowa. He was a big main frame 6x6 with some extra mule deer kickers off his G2's. It shook me up real bad and he never got inside the 75 yard line but I got to watch him for a while with my binocs. While I was glassing him a pick elephant could have passed under me and I wouldn't have known it. If he had come into range, it would have been a miracle if I could have put and arrow through him. When I talked to my buddy that evening he was laughing because I was still babbling over the experience.
