Guest Finn
My wife bought me a new 2-ball putter, but a 35" instead of 34" Can I hack an inch off and put a new grip on and be ok? Thanks,
muggs
Re: Golf club question I'm not a club pro, but I don't see why not. All the balance of a putter is in the head of the club. Cutting an inch off shouldn't hurt IMHO.
RyanH
Re: Golf club question I would say so! I think you should make a call to the pro shop first!! I golf but dont know a thing about maintence on clubs!
Tominator
Re: Golf club question PM carbonhunter, not carbon hunter, carbonhunter. carbonhunter is an assistant pro in our area here. He's pretty knowledgeable when it comes to golf. Personally, I'd say it's ok to do, but you might have some alignment and balance issues if you do the cut job yourself. Are you able to take it back and get the correct length? That's what I would do.
pa_sportsman
Re: Golf club question Unless something has changed in recent years, you should have no problem with shortening the shaft by one inch. Shafts on custom clubs are routinely cut to length. When installing a putter grip, setting the grip's flat surface perpendicular to the club face is important to ensure proper alignment. preacherman
Re: Golf club question I had a putter one time that was 34 inches and I needed it 35. I took it to the local proshop and the pro added an extra inch to it. I still put with the putter and love it. So to answer your question, it is possible, but I would have the pro to do it. Guest DJR
Re: Golf club question Yep you can just hack it off , use 2 sideed sticky tape, pour some gas over it then slide your new grip back on. But why dont you just choke down an inch?
buffett1
Re: Golf club question Yes you can. People do it all the time. They sell kits with the new grips and adhesives to do so. Just make sure its what you want to do before you go choppn it off. YOu can't glue it back on.
deer huntin k-man
Re: Golf club question It can deffinitly be done and very easily. If you go to a pro shop they can hack it off and have a new grip on it in 5 minnutes. If you feel like keeping that 10-15 bucks so you by a new package of balls after hitting all your other ones in the woods you can do it your self very easily. Its a simple and cheap job. Just make sure you put the grip on straight.

Ohiobucks
Re: Golf club question Pro shop is the answer. I did that on one of my older putters and got along fine with it. Us short guys need top shelf putters too!!
