m gardner
Had the local gunsmith put a new barrel on my old Remington 722. The old one was pretty bad and 244 rem. ammo is hard to come by. The new one is in 243 win., which there seems to be plenty of ammo for. I'll put on a Williams receiver sight and one of their Firesights up front. The stock is manufactured to accomodate iron sights and it points well. I have a used stock to replace the old cracked one. It's in beautiful shape and glass bedded. I need to take it to work and install the sights, a new extractor and it's done. Here's a photo of the old girl with the new barrel and the new stock laying beside her. I'll post more photos when it's finished. The best thing is that so far it's cost me $70.00 cash and a case of 9mm winchester ammo. m gardner
The 244 rem. was brought out about the same time as winchester's 243. It was a varmint cartridge and winchester brought out their's as a dual purpose cartridge for deer and varmints. Remington's 244 fell flat so they renamed it the 6mm rem. and put a twist in the barrels to handle larger bullets suitable for deer also. It's a great cartridge but there's little love for it. Jeramie
Kind of like the .222. It didnt stick around long after everyone fell in love with the .223! My favorite rifle is a .243. I handload for it. Great shooters. That should be a very nice setup!
David_218
Nice Rifle! I also had an old Remington Model 722 in .244 Rem. Mine was a heavy barrel model and I had it rebored & chambered to the .458 X 2" AMERICAN. It also required that the bolt face to be opened for the larger belted round. Great shooting rifle!
