preacherman
Has anyone had any experience with this particular pistol? I am looking into it and thinking about getting one for a snake shooter and home defense. Was wondering if anyone had one and what you thought about them? jesse8953
No experience but they are coming out with a new one that shoots 3 inch. That is what my ffl said.I think it would make a dandee snake killer!
coles
they must be an amazing lil pistol. last year i worked at a sporting goods store selling guns for them and when the judge first came out we could not keep one in the store. i bet we had at least 15 to 20 people a day coming in or calling and asking if we had one. Taurus didnt know how big of a hit they were goin to be and didnt make enough of them so they were basically impossible to get for a while. I saw a couple in a store the other day so they must be a little easier to come by. Should make an awesome snake gun and home defense pistol. Leo
I wouldn't expect that pistol to be very accurate with pistol rounds with the 3" long chamber. Used for shotgun ammo only it would probably do fine as a close range varmint zapper.
hutchies
It's made for close range combat. Think about loading a pistol with birdshot and shooting someone from 3 feet. A bullet leaves a clean hole.........birdshot destroys whatever it hits that close
WHISKEYSWAMP
I've owned the longer barrel version for about 8 months. haven't shot it yet but the only reason I bought it was that I got a good deal on it... will try to get it out sometime soon and see what it can do. coles
i wonder what kind of pattern it shoots at about 20 to 30 feet.
Dawg
Good buddy of mine purchased one of the newer ones Friday, shot it over the weekend and loves it.
Jeramie
They sale like crazy around here! Neat guns and a good concept for home defense!
Strut10
I've looked at them. Haven't shot one. Seems Taurus has a pretty good marketing campaign for them.. But I just can't see it. They're awfully darned bulky for a CCW. Balance is not so hot. Accuracy with .45 rounds is poor.....even at short distance. So it would seem to make a good truck gun or nightstand gun. But not very hot in the versatility department. A good 3" or 4" .44 Mag is concealable, reloadable with pretty coarse birdshot with the Speer capsules and will still make a decent short to mid-range deer gun. Just my $.02 for whatever that's worth.
Tink
An Undercover cop in East Texas shot and killed a bad guy with it It save his life witha quick kil ona dude with a drawn auto pistol. You dont have to be quite dead on target for it to work the 3" mag is the Hot Lick Look at the commerical and see for yourself what it does to Watermelons
Strut10
Look at the commerical and see for yourself what it does to Watermelons I guess if I lived in a neighborhood full of bad watermelons I'd have to give the gun another look. snapper
I will own one someday soon! Not for CCW or hunting....just plain ole carry on the hip when mowing the grass looking for snakes...then the night stand so mommy don't have to fumble with my semi-auto 1911. .410 "00" buckshot would do numbers on a would be thief at close range. WaCoyote
Bought one today. WooHoo!!! I teatered back and forth for the longest time and finally decided to get one. I bought the 3" bbl, 2 1/2" chamber model. I didn't want one that weighs a ton. Hope to get out and give it a whirl this weekend.
snapper
Lets see some pics! I'm leaning towards the 3" chamber in stainless and shorter barrel. I'm kinda liking the non-fluted cylinder too...not sure yet!
WaCoyote
This is just a file photo but it's the same thing. Didn't get to play this weekend. Maybe next.
rgl
I watched one of the gun shows on TV. They shot the Judge at a close silouette (sp?). The .38 cartridge knocked it down smartly. The .410 shotshell barely knocked it over. Just something to think about.
WaCoyote
The taurus doesn't shoot 38's. It's a 45 Colt/.410. I'm curious if you know which shotshells they were using. Federal I believe is advertising a buckshot load that looks like it was pretty much designed for the judge. Seems to me at close range it'd be OK but I'd think the energy would be a bit low with the 410 load. That said, this gun is being marketed as a very close range SD pistol. Shot mine a bit lately and I think for a close range self defense gun it'd be fine. But It is NOT accurate and the patterns with shotshells are dismal. I bought mine for plinking and shooting close grouse. I think it'll be fine to 15 feet maybe 20 but thats it. That said it is fun. We've had a great time playing with it. We tried to shoot airborne clays but failed to break any. The pattern is so bad you have to be very close. All in all I'm not sure if I like the pistol or not. Grouse season is right around the corner. If it kills them at reasonable ranges I'll be happy. If not I'll be selling.
johnf
I don't think the Judge was designed to be anything but an up close and personal SD gun. I don't think anyone should realistically believe anything beyond 10' with shot is going to do the job. Definitely a truck gun.
WaCoyote
I couldn't agree more.
