dogdoc
Re: found dead buck hate to hear that---I have an agreement with all my neighbors that if a shot deer jumps the fence we can cross property lines to find a down deer. It is nice to have a good relationship with the neighbors. Did you take the horns?
WaCoyote
Re: found dead buck If they were too ignorant to let you know about it so it doesn't go to waste, why would you even try finding out who gets the antlers. Holy Cow! If some jerk shot a deer and let it rot on my land, they definately wouldn't get to keep a momento.

[/ QUOTE ] They could have lost the blood trail and been sick about it this whole season.....it happens to the best of us. Worth asking how their season went to test the water. You don't have to announce what you found, but I would explore a little if we had a cordial relationship.

[/ QUOTE ] I couldn't agree more, but wouldn't you at least ask adjacent property owners to keep there eyes open? Lets face it a 155 buck is a buck of a lifetime for most hunters, not to mention a beautifull animal that deserves some semblance of respect. huntinsonovagun
Re: found dead buck I don't know about ya'll, but it sounds like a poached deer to me! Notice he says he hates to see it go to the coyotes....which means it is fresh! I don't know of any deer seasons that are still open. If I poached a deer and it ran on someone else, I probably wouldn't go after it either!! If it is an older kill (couple months old) I would see how his season was...maybe he did kill it legally and never found it. Sounds like a heck of a deer!! Guest zukebaby
Re: found dead buck Too bad that someone didn't recover their deer. When did you find it? The seasons in Illinois ended on Jan . 16th. I do not want to sound like a hard-****, but the other animals need to eat too and after that long of a time all I would want to get would be the antlers too. MUDRUNNER
Re: found dead buck Boy that's a bummer.Me and my cousin found a 10 point that will probably score around 140.Someone must have shot it during second shotgun season and never recovered it.Hate to see that stuff happen to nice bucks like that. Guest Andrea
Re: found dead buck That is certainly a shame. Our season is still open down here. I have a particular stand that I normally see deer everytime I sit there. But for a fews days straight I saw NOTHING. I went back the other day after a few days of leaving it alone and noticed some buzzards lighting in a pine tree about 50-60 yards away. Turns out there was a dead 8 point laying in the middle of the deer trail. I removed it and about 4 or 5 days later the deer started coming back. It made me sick that he had been shot and never recovered. Don't know who shot it and never will. I kept the horns though.
