Orion_70
Well, I broke down and bought a thermacell the other day after trying to sight a rifle in and getting eaten alive. I sprayed down with 40% deet and the mosquitoes and deer flies here in Fl. just laughed at it. I'll try it out next weekend and see how it does. I've read a lot of good comments on them, I'll put it to the test though. Hopefully I didn't waste my money.
WHISKEYSWAMP
It should work well for you... I've had good luck with mine.
wtnhunt
For the skeeters it will sure make a difference, very well worth it. For the deer flies, dunno, maybe it will work. They wear me out here, but they usually seem to find me when I am on the move, mowing the lawn or walking to check cams. Those nasty boogers are very persistent and are aggrevating. Told the wife she should have tried the thermacell when she was working in the garden the other day, deer flies here are terrible already this year. Kind of on the topic, have developed a bit of an issue with our thermacell I think, not getting anywhere near 12 hours of use per butane refill. The butane on mine must be leaking when it is off. Last time I used it, looked like it was still about half full, went out Saturday morning to call yotes and the darned thing was empty. Guess I will unscrew the butane after I am done using it from now on.

Might be time for a new one. Thermacell works great on skeeters and no seeums here in MS. We have a gnat I've heard called a poultry gnat around here this year that a thermacell doesn't help with. That's the only pesky insect I've found that isn't affected by a thermacell.

bluelund79
Yep, got mine last year for early goose season. Now it goes everywhere, even fishing. Was especially nice during late turkey season. Don't have the biting fly problem in my neck of the woods, but let us know how it works on them though! I thought these were a gimmick, but now I have 2... dbHunterNY
I just bought one a couple weeks back. I haven't gotten to try it out yet. I've heard they work well unless it's really windy.
jm23494
One the best hunting investments I ever made. Like most people I was able to score a second one when Winchester was running their promo this spring. I have the same problem with the butane William. I'm gonna start removing the butane cartridge when I'm not planning on using it for an extended period of time.

Eventually it gets so bad the unit won't work. I find it takes about 20minutes for them to get full effect.
Rhino
Dang Leo...I guess they just don't make them like they used to. Mine is one of the old ones I got when my son was playing little league baseball. He's 22 now. Back then they only made them in an off white color. That was about 6 to 8 years (who's counting) before they started making them in green or camo for hunters. I bought one of those OD covers for my old one. It still works fine and doesn't leak. I'll try to remember to remove the butane from it when I'm not using it from now on though. Thanks
redkneck
Mine will last all year long without removing the bottle. Doesn't last too long when your kids leave it on though.
coles
i like mine. doesnt seem to last as long as they say but when it is working the skeeters arent around. the only problem is they dont work in the wind and if you have ever been to montana you know that there is seldom a day when the wind doesnt blow. However............it worked awesome!!!!!

Adjam5
Y'all know you can buy replacement butane cartridges and not spend the Thermacell price on them? Look in the beauty section and they are in pink ConAir packages for cordless curling irons. If you read the package closely, you will see they are made by Thermacell and are almost half off as if you bought the Thermacell specific refills of butane. They are the exact refill that you would put into your Thermacell. Check it out my son Joe found this out, and made the purchase to show me. Now I am telling you guys . He got them at Walmart. BTW...William I also received my free Thermacell from Winchester . They sent me a camo one .

woolybear
I got mine from Echhard's drug store about 2-3 years ago when they were discontinuing them. Got it for $1.79 and the re-fills for $0.50 a piece along with the butane bottles. Unfortunately the last unit they had. Best dang 5 spot I ever spent. Works wonders on the hungry black flies here come May. 3 thumbs up from me, don't know how I did without.
