GWSmith
I love this bar! Half price is a good call:cell:...but I aint going near any cosmetic counter unless it's Christmas:wacko: Personally I prefer this bar... The higher extended large scent pad holder that clips into the regular thermacell grill and turns it into a heated scent dispenser;)

wtnhunt
does it spook deer???? They can smell it. It is not offensive, but I have had groups of does that I am almost certain caught wind of the thermacell and got a little cautious.
Adjam5
I have only used it in spring turkey season. Come deer season it is cold here and the bugs are at a minimum.

It is not offensive, but I have had groups of does that I am almost certain caught wind of the thermacell and got a little cautious. Thats right, the smell it gives off is native off a certain type of plant. I just got a Thermacell off ebay - Appliance, refill kit, and holster for $28 shipped. There has been quite a few combo deals listed on their by the same seller if anyone is looking for a deal!
Leo
When the pad is used up and the unit starts to smoke (you'll see it and smell it) then it's offensive. A new pad doesn't seem to have hardly any odor whatsoever.
12-point
where do you get the think to put in the grill for the large pad????
Alisha
I'm going to have to get one after reading this thread. I'm convinced that I'm a mosquito/black fly magnet. :surrender: While we bought pure citronella for the black flies and it worked, I'm still having to wear OFF to get rid of the mosquitoes. Even after applying OFF to my face twice in 6 hours, I got bit 3 times. :helpsmilie: I can't go outside here for 2 minutes, just to run to the truck without getting bit a couple times. GWSmith
where do you get the think to put in the grill for the large pad???? The dispenser unit is the same as the one used for mosquito repellent. The black metal stand for the large white scent pad clips into the grill on the appliance and yes it does work(clips into the black grill) on both models of appliance. This one is on Ebay right now...

The thermacell will work for the mosquitoes, no question about that, I am however doubtfull that it will do much for the flies if they are anything like the deer flies we have here. With a bit further testing this year, my experience here with the deer flies, the thermacell appears to do no good at all.
Adjam5
I used the freebie Thermacell I got from Winchester over the weekend, and it worked like a charm out on the deck. Great tool to battle them bugs.
Flintlock1776
Works well for me. Hard to find the Dirt Scent refills but I finally found a few in Cabelas. I wish they would offer more scent pads; the butane far outlasts the pad's life span. They got us as the propane cartridges are proprietary as far as I can see. Flinty check out the beauty section at Walmart, they sell Con Air butane tubes for cordless curling irons. They are made by Thermacell Half the price. But those pesky scent pads...they got us there. They sell pads in "natural earth" scent also. I don't hunt ground blinds in NC usually until December because of the snakes, so I'm ususally up in a stand when the skeeters are out and the scent usually stays up high. By the time any of it makes it to the ground, it has dispersed enough so that there are few particles for the deers' noses to pick up. They can smell 'bout anything, but thier reactions are based on how strong the smell is. The less of an offensive smell particulate there is in the air, the less of a threat the deer percieve. They know if a smell is very faint whatever is making it is usually ver far away. The stronger it is, the closer it is to them. This is when they react. I like the contraption and it goes everywhere my gun goes until about the end of Nov.-first of Dec. Get the "natural earth" pads.
