coles
How come Fred always shoots little tiny 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 year old bucks all the time? This morning he shot a little tiny 1x2 mule deer buck and the other day he was in Ohio or Iowa or some huge buck state and shot a little fork horn whitetail buck. Dont get me wrong, i love the show and Fred is really high energy but it seems like he shoots anything that comes by just to have a shot for tv. That may not be his decision since the editor or something might be telling him just to shoot anything just to have a shot for the show. Has anyone else noticed this? rhine16
Yeah I have. Sometimes I wish he'd wait on a bigger deer, but I enjoy the show because he uses traditional equipment.
coles
for sure. he was using a compound bow this morning though. as the show was ending they were showing some of the other bucks that they saw and one was a monster mulie with a drop tine and everything you could want but he shot a little one instead. RangerClay
Why does he have to shoot monster bucks? I think the show is great. Isn't hunting all about the experience and not the size of the rack. I really like Fred's show and I believe he does a fine job.
coles
im not saying that he has to shoot monster bucks. but i just think the little ones should have a chance to grow up a little. I love the show. but i dont believe in shooting bucks so young. Not criticising him cuz he is successful on almost every show. i think its just part of conservation. right? not tryin to start a big debate. i guess im just used to seeing huge bucks shot on every hunting show. Wont keep me from watching him though. I just love how he gets extremely excited no matter what he shoots.

This monster buck thing is so overrated IMO ..
layin on the smackdown
Fred is one that will flat out say he is not a trophy hunter, but i nice rack is a great plus. I just watched a show with him saying that about a week ago when he was hunting in Iowa. he shoots does too, when the opportunity arises. He's the real deal, he's in it for the hunt, not whats on their heads. I respect the man entirely, especially since he does most of it with traditional equipment. Anything with a long bow or recurve is a trophy. I don't think there is any need to reduce his talent or decisions due to the fact that he is a meat hunter like most of us. He also hunts a lot of public ground which is not managed which makes for a lot less big buck encounters.
RangerClay
I just love how he gets extremely excited no matter what he shoots. Exactly!!! That is the reason why I enjoy the show.
Orion_70
I have to agree with Joe ... This monster buck thing is so overrated IMO .. Have to agreee completely.. A nice rack is a definite plus, but I hunt to be outdoors and for natural meat:)
camoman1
His show is one of the few I can watch....the antler craze drives me nuts!!!
Swamphunter
Why does he have to shoot monster bucks? I think the show is great. Isn't hunting all about the experience and not the size of the rack. I really like Fred's show and I believe he does a fine job. I like the realism, and his excitement. I'd be happy to kill a buck like that after a spot and stalk also. I seem to remember it was nearing the end of his season. I like to see hunters on those shows shooting some smaller bucks. Seems more real to me than 170" plus all the time
Adjam5
I think Fred is very down to earth and it is no mistake he is shooting less than monster bucks. With his fame and fortune, He could hunt anywhere he'd like...right? So I believe this is a deliberate action to capitalize on the opportunity and stick n string hunting is no easy task. He does make it look easy I must admit.
Mach1
Really like Fred's show. When he comes and hunts in Illinois (I believe this week's show is in IL), he hunts in my home county with a friend of ours. My brother met him a couple years back when he was in town hunting, and said the guy is an absolute hoot to be around. He said Fred is the exact same high energy guy in person as he is on TV. GWSmith
The last time I watched his show I can remember saying: "Someone at Easton made a very smart move when they hired him" It is very refreshing to see someone who is happy to harvest anything and enjoys hunting so much that when he does not take an animal you can still believe what he's saying. He hunts, like I suspect, alot of us do...We enjoy being there.
HUNTINGMAN
I like his shows also,I think they show that he hunts for the fun and excitement as well as the meat.It also shows that he does the dirty work himself,he doesnt pay someone to do his scouting for him so all he has to do is go sit in a tree and shoot a monster buck.
