New Jersey approved Crossbow for Bow season & Sunday Hunting on Pvt lands

Doesn't realtree have their logo on a horton crossbow? I think so! This is the same thing my grandpa used to say about compounds when he shot a recurve. Im sticking to my bear kodiak!

Could be your grandpa was right. Much of the argument back then centered on what precedents the introduction of compound bows would be setting in terms of polluting bow seasons with all kinds of inappropriate weapons. Well by golly, looky here. Today we are justifying the implementation of crossbows based on the acceptance of the compound. Those old boys knew what they were talking about after all.

I will keep my comments to myself at this point. Knew it was going to happen. Money talks and the crossgun manufacturers bought the NJ fish game and wildlife. Will see firsthand what the impact will be come September.

Got a buck says you won't notice a thing.

If crossguns are not easier to hunt with why is that more than 70% of the "archery" kill in Ohio is with crossguns. If you don't believe me look it up,after all it is your state.

Probably because a certain segment of the hunting population chose to use a crossbow. America, freedom of choice, remember?

Got a better question for you: why does Ohio's deer herd continue to grow even though they allow the evil crossbow?

Y'all are whipping a dead horse. There's a few on this board that would rather pit hunter against hunter than listen to logic.

Make it two and a cup of coffee sometime!

The answer to the question is that Ohio does not have a kill of six bucks a year and an unlimited antlerless limit in all seasons. Makes a huge difference. Those that kill at will in the late firearms seasons are now afforded the opportunity in better weather.

Hmmm, interesting. Yeah, that would probably suck.

Tominator or chris or whover you are....I like you, you make me laugh. We will have to get together some time for a cup of coffee.... or adult beverage.... whatever. You can not be that far from me.

Why thank you sir. It's Chris; Tominator is my alter ego. :D

Sunbury is about 2 hours from Cincy and I like coffee.

I do not understand why people cry about crossbows. If you do not like it do not hunt with one. It is so simple. Who cares if someone else chooses to. The stats in states that allow crossbows speak for themselves. No real increase in deer killed. I do not think people should hunt deer with a .223. Maybe we should ban a sub par deer rifle instead of a tool that is more that is more up to the task at hand then a recurve and some compound bows. Seems like people think it is alot harder to get a deer with a compound then a crossbow. That may have been true at one time, but not really now. I see guys on tv taking 50 yard shots all the time with compounds. Compounds have become so much better in the last ten years. The way I see it you still have to get very close undetected with either. Thats the fun part of bow hunting. I do not own a crossbow, but probably will some day. Can someone post up a pic of a crossgun? Never seen one. Must be something new.

I'm with you brother. I don't see anything wrong with them during bow season. They have always been legal here, and all it does is get more folks into shooting real bows..LOL. It also allows older folks with bad shoulder, ets to get out during bow season, which is great.

I started with a crossbow, and progressed to a compound after the first year.:)

True Bucks fan here, but I lost a bet. I'll get my waving Ohio pennant back on July 13th. :cool2:

Well Said !!!

People with "Control Issues" sticking there noses where it does not belong no longer evoke an emotional response from me. These are the very same people who would vehemently defend their home from invaders yet they want to control what other people do??? Their desire to control their environment, and everyone else in it, have isolated them from the people who's minds they wish to change to their point of view.

I personally may not like what you choose to use hunting but I will stand by you and defend your right to use it legally. When the people come to a majority agreement on what constitutes a "Management Tool" expect it to be made "Legal" and "Accept" the fact that people will use it hunting.

Sure enough! And just so no one starts criticizing the crossbow shooters, let's just ditch all these special seasons and make the whole hunting season whatever each hunter wants to use (guns, bows, crossbows, spears, whatever). Let's stop being selfish and exclusionary. Can't we all just get along? Throw out those old control issues that apparently we all have.
