redkneck
Wife got me an early father's day present at gander mt. Daiwa spinning rod/reel combo. Apparently her and my dad had a miscommunication, because i'm not much of a spinning reel guy, i fish mostly with baitcast reels. Was looking online before i make the fifty mile drive to take it back, and saw all these pfleuger brands. I've looked at them before, but never owned one. Anyone have one, or an opinion on one? Just wanted to know before i went down there. btw.... i know this should be in the fishing section, but kinda needed a quick answer.
coles
from what ive heard and seen the pfleuger reels are supposed to be pretty nice. I dont have one myself but to me a big spinning reel can bee just as good as bait casters plus you dont get the backlash. I have some really good shimano curado bait casters but the only thing i use them for up here in montana is pike fishing and trolling. Whenever i jsut head out for fishing i take my spinning reels. Just way easier to use and not have to deal with backlash. Im sure it would make you a good panfish combo if you keep it. I never liked spinning reels but once i used them they fit everything i use it for up here in the small streams and lakes/ponds.
JimT
I have a Pfleuger and have been very happy with it. Mine is the Medalist model...
redkneck
Thanks guys. I went and swapped the daiwa spinning reel for the pfleugar echelon. We'll see how it does. I like a spinning reel ok, but needed a bass setup more than another panfish rig. We'll see how it goes.
Randy
I've got a few of them and I really like them other than the bail springs tend to ware out in a couple years.
Shaun_300
My buddy fishes bass tournaments and he swears by them! I don't have one myself, but it'll definitely be my next one. I just got a Quantum Incyte from Cabelas this spring. 11 ball bearing spinning real for $59! Talk about a smooth reel!
stevebeilgard
pfluger is real good, but give me a mitchell open face bait caster any day.
redkneck
I grew up on ABU Garcia. But last few I've had turned out to be crap and bearings went out FAST. I remember the old 5000C my dad fished with for 25 years, even lots of time in salt water. It still casts ok. They dont make em like that anymore.
