sskybnd
broke down today and bought a trophy rock, wow kinda exspencive, $21.00 for a 16 lb rock. realy not to bad till you walk over 20 acres with it on your shoulder looking for just the right spot to put it, found a small hill that has a good trail from a 3rd year clear cut coming onto our lease and has a creek running around the hill, didnt put the camra out yet hopefully they will find it in a week or so and than i can put it out,
wtnhunt
Have had really good results with the trophy rocks here. Usually use the 4 wheeler to take minerals out. Have toted 50 lb blocks up the hill a few times before though.
sskybnd
yea if i have to tote any 50lb bags of corn or soybeans back there its going to be tough on me, im thinking of taking a 300lb feeder back in there made out of a 55 gal drum, i can carry the drum and come back for the legs, than all i will have to do is carry 7 bags:flex: but being i think its in a great spot, if i dont get one early bow season im sure when the guns start going off that will be a sweet spot for them to hide. how long does a rock noramley last,
wtnhunt
how long does a rock noramley last, Depends. How much rain you get and how much activity will be the biggest factors. I usually replenish my mineral sites every 3-4 months here.
Brianxt
SEKY :hammer1:I have seen the Rock but never tried it. I have tried the lucky buck brand mineral I put it out on a old stump 3 times ever 3 months the deer eat half the stump and have dug it up. It has been 2 years sense I freshened it up and they still use it. Let me know how the rock works I have wondered about it.
dogdoc
good luck---I know William has stated several times that he has had great success with the trophy rock. I use a plain trace red mineral block for cattle and it works just fine.
BearClaw
I use the trace mineral block from Tractor Supply (50# for around 7-8 bucks). Works great and really bring the deer in! Never tried the rock though.

Never tried the rock though. I'm with these guys! Although I also have a few feeders I pour loose minerals in as well. (I just cant quite part with 20 bucks for 16 pounds of salt)
sskybnd
well its been close to a month now that ive put the rock out, still nothing, not even a track, but they still are using the trail thats 15 foot away, think i should pour some thing on the rock to get them to start using it. Don't think it would hurt, once they start to use it activity should take off. Surprising that they have not found it. Always had great activity with the trophy rock here. dogdoc
whenever I start a mineral station I'll bait it for a few times with some corn. This usually gets them on it pretty quick.
sskybnd
went this morning to walmart and bought a gal jug of buck jam instant mineral lick in sweet corn flavor, and poured it over the rock its kinda a jel but as i was leaving to realy started to rain. the site is on a hill, do you think it will wash it away or do you think the ground will absorbe enough to get them to start coming to the rock, changed the batteries in the camra so hopefuly we will see some thing soon.
