I went and moved a stand to a new property no-one was allowed to hunt but me put my treestand out and cuddeback no-flash. Come back a week later to get the pics didnt have a stand or a camera. So basically they took 650.00 bucks out of my pocket. Its a good think i didnt catch them it would have been a long walk home when i busted there knee caps.:2guns: Anyone else have this problem deer hunting? Tominator
I've had 2 stands stolen. I don't play that game anymore.
Rhino
I've only had one stand stolen here in MS during all the years I deer hunted. I'm pretty sure who the culprits were that border the southeastern most part of our place. At least 3 other hunters have had stands stolen from the same general area. Stand theft seems to be a lot worse in some states where there's more land in planted crops than timber. A couple of friends of mine in Iowa (they're brothers) have had 14 stands and 3 trail cameras stolen by the last count they gave me.

huntcamp
Had a game camera stolen. Followed tracks in snow to persons house. They never answered the door, so I called police. Since I was the one who followed the tracks, theysaid nothing can be done.
Buckhunter76
I personally had the experience first hand to get stuff stolen, so everything I go in with comes out, lol, Ive had 2 brand new climbers taken off of my uncles property, and the thing of it is I was the only one that had permission, lmao
Zambo
I have lost two cuddiebacks that were stolen off of private property. I hate thieves. It would be nice to catch them once. Has any one ever caught a thief in the act? What did you do?
ruttinbuc
Never had a problem leaving stuff in the woods til last year. I went and moved a stand to a new property no-one was allowed to hunt but me.... Someone else was probably hunting it all along and is trying to discourage any competition. I don't give the thieves an opportunity anymore. I have had a few stands stolen in the past. It comes with all the hype, I guess. It is pretty darn expensive anymore to have all the bells and whistles. Some guys have no conscious or don't understand the concept of working for anything.:nono:
swohiodave
I hear ya there ruttinbuc. I have not had anything stolen but my uncle has and one other guy where i used to hunt had his stand stolen by the neighbors kid and his friend. They were caught in the act and the kids dad doesn't let him hunt anymore. There is a subdivision going up close to where my stand is and during gun season i caught more than one construction worker trying to sneak over. they have no conscious at all! 12-point
its part of it but i think i will pack all my stuff in this year and pack it out the same night. Its not worth getting it stolen..
capecodder
I use a 3/8" cable and a padlock on my stands and the master python cable lock works great on a trail cam.
Ethan Givan
Ive never had anything stolen, but I lock all deer stands to the tree with a cable or chain and padlock. I dont have a way to lock my trail camera but im working on a metal box so i can lock it to the tree as well. I take no chances.
HunterLuke
Last deer season I was at the barn skinning a doe when a guy who hunts the same property as me and my brother do pulled up. I walked over to him and we started talkin about how we was doin and deer and the whole time he kept stretchin his neck lookin in out barn. He's a nosey type guy anyway so I finally asked what he was looking for. He said somebody stole his new 2-man ladder stand and asked me if I knew anything about it. I told him I didn't have it but I do have a gorilla hang on stand back there also. So after he leaves and I finish with the deer I walk back there to check on the stand and sure enough it and the bottom 3 foot pegs were gone. They must ave thought if they took the bottom 3 pegs we couldn't get the other but they left the rope and I used the rope as a foot step and got out the others. Sure P'ssed me off toknow somebody is so cheap and stupid they have to go to the extents of stealing somebodys tree stands.
HunterLuke
I will add this too, Both mine and the others guys stand were chained and locked. The peope must have brought bolt cutters and got them.
Stinger-Hunter
I've had so many climbing stands stolen that it is pitiful. I've not use them in some cases simply because I knew I would have to leave it out there in the afternoon. I chose to hunt from the ground based on this. I have hunted private and public land. Once my climbing stand was stolen right out of my truck bed at walmart and another time, I hid it under brush and it was gone when I came back. The last time someone took it because they didn't like where I was positioned so he took it, hid it 150 yards away. Luckily, I knew someone that knew him and he brought it back. Hunters, by and large, are untrustable. I hate to say it, but buy an expensive stand and chain it to a tree and wait a week, then tell me I'm wrong. HUNTINGMAN
I have never had a stand or any other hunting equipment stolen on the privat farm I hunt on,thank the good lord. But heres a question,if I found a stand that someone had put up on my farm that was tresspassing, and I took this stand down and used it for my own personal use, would this make me a theif and mean I had stooped to a lower level.I have taken a home made ladder stand before,it was about 20 years ago and I still use it.This thing was so heavy there is no way the guy could have gotten it back up the hill anyway,I seen him leave one day and went and cut it down, threw it over in a hollow, leftit for two years and then went and got it and started useing it myself. BearClaw
I had a ladder stand and a separate seat stolen once. It was on private land that was owned by people way out of town and everybody apparently hunted on the land. I was on the way up to take it down after turkey season one year and I just had a gut feeling that it wasn't there anymore and I was right! It really ticked me off that someone would have the audacity to take someone else's equipment. I thought there was this 'brotherhood' among hunters that respected each other. I know for the most part there is but there are a few bad apples out there in our 'community' like anywhere else.
camoman1
Had someone attempt to steal a stand, I think, not sure what they were trying to do. I got to a stand one afternoon, and it was hanging sideways on the tree. From the ground you could easily see it was chained on and padlocked, so why they would even attempt to take it without a bolt cutter is beyond me..?? The way I see it is if they are trespassing and you find their stand, its yours. They arent supposed to be their in the first place so if they leave their equipment, thats just tough luck. swohiodave
If it is on your property it is yours! We had a guy steal a stand once and move it right across the fence line. The good part is that it was a wooden homemade one that was not very good. It got shot out of the tree we found it in. The tree was in this guys back yard that butted the woods. He had a .25 acre lot and was hunting illegally.
camoman1
I agree...if its on your property, do what you want with it. The person was trespassing and didnt belong there in the first place! Last season the neighbors had a wooden ladder stand on the property we have permission to hunt(and they dont). The ended up killing a deer from it and trespassing further in doing so. I told the landowner he said to tell them they have till the next day to get the stand out of there....well they didnt so I had a nice bonfire a few days later:D:D
treeinwalker
I had a leaf river cam stolen by a guy who was competing for our hunting spot. The same landowner lets him hunt another farm a few miles away, but he wants all of them. The landowner's son tols me about a week after mine was stolen that he heard the guy tell his dad he had just "bought" a game camera. The idiot cut the corner flange of the hole the cable goes through becasue he coulf not cut the cable. Funny thing is, he left my cable lock on the tree and cut the strap off of it. I know I can't prove he's the one that did it, but there are some identifying marks on the camera that only I know about. The farmer's son and I went to the other farm to find my camera last year on a Sunday and the guy and 3 of his friends were in there checking the camera! We left and the next time we went back, the camera had already been moved. I've been trapping beavers in there this summer and have year-round written permission to keep the beavers out of there. I do this as a favor to the landowner. I'm going back in there this September for a "checkup" and when I find my camera, it's coming home with me. My wife bought me a new camera for my birthday last year after mine was stolen. Now, I'm more careful about where I put it, and I've designed a bear-box/anti-theft box for it. I'm getting it made up in a few weeks. I hope that guy is still using my camera this year. I would love to have it back jsut so he knows what it feels like. jesse8953
My brother is a logger and was working. The land owner was there and saw a tree stand in his woods that was not his.He told my brother to take it down for him. After my brother took that tree stand down the land owner told him to keep it, for all the trouble of taking it down. The land owner is watching his woods a lot harder this year for tresspassers.
