Sounds like you need a Jack Russell Terrier!!

I second that, I have 4 Jacks and they are a blast. They each have their own personality and if a dog can be taught to do something , these dogs will learn it fast. They are good hunting dogs and are great for shed hunting. they will definitely keep your kids busy and they love water too.I can't really say anything bad about them except they cost me an arm and leg to board them when i go on vacation:)

Just a couple weeks ago my brother's Dashund jumped off a chair and broke her back. She had to be put to sleep. It was very traumatic for the kids. It's true they are susceptable to that kind of injury.

They still have another Dashund, and my brother uses her as his tracking dog when he's bowhunting. That little dog flat can find a deer.

Yep, those little buggers can flat out track wounded deer! I had that experience first hand. A buddy called to ask me to help him find a buck he hit. I didn't know he was going to use a wire hair dachshund! It is illegal, but, oh well, off we went. That little sucker was tiring us out and working like you would not believe. On the long leash this dog was putting us to a heavy sweat. Unbelievable! We would have found that buck had we kept going, but were not experienced enough with the dog. The dog was owned by a friend of my buddy's dad. He was mad because we gave up the chase too soon. IfI ever get another dog it will be one to track deer.

get them a pit bull. they suck as dogs but you'll have a good time shooting it. lol

Dang, Steve you sound as cold blooded as me! I have a dachsund, great little dog, but they are QUIRKY when it comes to strangers, and can be bad with kids. Good thing about them is you don't have to worry about a stranger picking them up, they won't go near them, or at least the ones i've had dont. Jack russell seems to fit your bill, or a beagle.

we have a little daschund mixed with something else. he is a little bit thicker, old and fat now. he is about 16 years old now and still likes his toys.... when he can hear you squeaking them. I found him while camping and brought him home. my other dog came from the pound. She is a beagle and italian greyhound mix and boy can she track!

And I thought WE spoiled our dog!! Lette looks very royal today! :):):)

Lady D...That was Harley in the picture. Lettee is twice the size he was and she's only 44lbs!

I posted that pic to show how big a 22-24lb Beagle was and that they do shed enough that furniture covers become needed if you let them get up there. With Lettee our new Beagle/BlueTick she is not allowed on any furniture. Yesterday I gave her a bath...I should have taken pic's of the hair that was floating in the tub for this post! If you would have looked at just the hair in the water you would have thought that the dog leaving it there was bald!

I was thinking about this thread today while out working and wondered if anyone has mentioned that a trip to a local Vet for advice could be just the thing. You just can not get a better source of information and you can see how your treated by the staff and get an idea if you want to continue with care for your dog there as well;)
