hutchies
I like to make this game a little more interesting. Not only do you have to pick a spot but you have to make the decision whether or not you would even take the shot. I have been keeping some pics I've seen to do this with so bear with me there will probably be 10 or more of these pick a spot games.................Enjoy:hammer1: On your way into your stand this bruiser stands up at 28 yards. You try to steady yourself as the crosswind is blowing about 15 mph.....................What do you do?
wtnhunt
That deer is not quite broadside, very slight too angle. A 15 mph crosswind is a pretty good wind....., but at that distance my bow shoots pretty flat, don't think there would be but a few inches of wind drift, shoot in crosswinds at my 3d all the time and no issues at 30-35 yards keeping groups inside the vitals. Depending on the direction of the wind I am going somewhere between the next to the bottom green and blue.
hutchies
Sorry I forgot to add wind direction...........
Dawg
In between second blue and green from the bottom. I like that spot.

ruttinbuc
I would just stand there stock still and let his confusion have him make a mistake. Again the deer is looking at you. Shoot and he is in the next county going night time. First off, you are not going to get the draw on him. You have a better chance of the deer disregarding you and dropping his guard. His curiosity may even have him come closer to see just what you are. He may stomp to get you to move. Be mime strong. I killed a couple of old doe the very same way. Both made the mistake of forgetting about me and turning broadside walking away. And yes before you shoot, those little strands of wheat and weeds will break your heart.:bang:

I've never been successful doing this, but you are never going to get drawn on a deer looking at you; therefore, I'm waiting til he turns to take off. Once that head turns, draw quickly... Maybe he'll still be there and will give a good angle.

PotashRLS
I would not shoot. This deer is nervous and ready to bound at any moment. He is also quartering to you making it harder to punch him perfectly. Even at 28 yards, this deer can/will jump your string no matter how fast your setup, especially when on the alert!!! elkoholic
If I knew the distance to be 28 yards and I got to full draw (I would sure try), the bottom green circle should take care of him dropping down to load the leg muscles and allow leeway for any wind deflection. The few grass strands are of little significance and my arrow should travel this distance in about 1/4 second giving him very little time to react. His look is more one of curiosity than panic. Tominator
No shot. Skipper for me.
redkneck
Green 3 if I could draw, but no way in that scenario.
dbHunterNY
No shot. Skipper for me. You tend to say that often. Want another hunting buddy? If you can pass on that I need to hunt where you do; nobody seems to get it around here. ...oh yea I'd take the shot if I could draw without it running away, aiming low of course. The wind won't make the arrow drift more than a couple inches.
tedicast
I'm on the ground...no cover...if i'm going to my stand, I'm wearing a backpack. I hate the deers body language. I would be at full draw, but probably not shooting unless something favorable happened. Edited June 27, 2009 by tedicast
sskybnd
thats what i was thinking, if you werent already at full draw it wont happen, his body language, says he seen or smelt something and the slightest movement he's gone, no shot for me either
buckee
Right or left a tad, depending on the wind direction, of the 2nd green from the bottom.. Should take out the heart, but I think I'll go a tad higher, just in case, and still get a double lunger. snapper
Had this same situation once (not as big) but just the same! I got to full draw....he stood there looking right at me...aimed low and he still "ducked" the arrow as he loaded up to run! There isn't a dot on that deer thats low enough for him not to duck under an arrow. He'll hear that twang from your bow long before your arrow gets there...esp. since he's already aware your there! I learned a lesson...I'll never shoot at a deer thats looking straight at me with both ears facing me...he/she is alert and ready. No shot for me! ILAntlrAddct
Being nervous and getting ready to bound, Id still draw on him at 28yds. If he presents for shot after drawn Id be sticking it in green #3. If he bolts off as soon as i start drawing back Id let up. More then likely hes gonna go, but I wouldnt be making a chip shot. That buck deserves a clean ethical kill.
mike13candace
I had the same shot at 35-yards last year in Texas.. he came over a ridge, stood broadside for 5-minutes.. I had to watch.. no shot..
Straight Shooter
Depending on the area and hunting pressure will determine if you get to even draw before he bolts. Around here in NC, it's a memory not a shot.
Nickel
If that buck was blind and I could get drawn I would shoot green
Ravin R10 man
green 2 or 3 if Im at full draw..otherwise he's gone in 2 sec.
Tom2008
Wait for him to make a move. In other words I would wait for a more broadside shot or quarting away. If he isn't spooked too bad and just wants to get up and leave he will probably quarter away from you.
Rhino
By the looks of this pic I'm not hunting in MS so I must be somewhere in the midwest. That being the case I'm going to pass for something bigger without even thinking about it.
