The Adventures with Orlan (Lots of Pics!!!)

Since I have moved out here to Washington, Orlan and I have been trying to arrange a meeting between the two of us and Friday morning it finally happened. I had friday off of work so I took off in my truck 2.5 hours east to Clarkston Washington. While I was there our plan was to drive around and see the country and animals as well as see what kind of hunting opportunities I might have. For being the summer time and 100 degrees we surprising saw a lot of animals at all times of the day.

We went out after the best egg salad sandwich I have ever had that was prepared by his wife for lunch. Within 30 minutes of getting in the truck I looked out the window and looked up a couple hundred feet and there is a Big Horn ram standing at the edge of the rocks looking down at us. As the day progressed we saw white tails and mullies. Around 5 we returned home to eat dinner. Good God if you ever get the chance to eat Orlan or his wife's food DO NOT pass it up. It is simply amazing. Dinner time was some Buffalo Goulash over bread, topped with salsa. It would make you slap your grandma it was so good. After dinner it was time to head back out.

We stopped at one of Orlan's friend/old hunting buddy's house to pick him up. While there the friend showed me a picture of a mullie that his father had killed some time ago and it was by far the biggest mullie I have ever seen!!!. Even watching all the shows of the big name hunters hunting the best mullie country in the world their deer had nothing on this one. Anyhow, now we are back in the truck and heading towards the Blue Mountains. We are riding around looking at land and come out of the woods to the fields and start spotting deer everywhere. We had to have seen 30 plus mullies. At one point driving down the gravel road we stopped and looked behind us with the binocs and spot elk grazing. It was a little too dark and the elk were a little to far to get pics. And that brings us to the end of Friday.

Saturday morning I wake up and as I am getting out of the shower this smell hits me that makes me think what heaven will smell like. Its the smell of eggs and green peppers being scrambled in the pan and sausage being cooked. Once again, simply amazing. After breakfast we headed out in the 100 degree weather and started seeing deer right away. Unfortunately I had to get back to Richland for a cookout (or a BBQ as the west coasters call it) so the day with Orlan ended after a lunch at Grumpy's bar and food.

All in all, this is the best adventure/trip I have made since I have been in Washington. I can not wait to go back and if anybody ever has the chance to go on a tour of the land between Clarkston Wa and the Blue Mountains with Orlan TAKE IT!!!! And also call me so I can ride a long again. I will be going back sometime in the near future and can not wait.

Orlan, thanks again for everything!!! it was great meeting you and I have met a truly great friend, well actually two, your wife included.

Now on to the pics......

I am an idiot! Why did I not get a picture or me and Orlan:bang:. Orlan, I am blaming that on your memory!!!

There was a VERY GOOD REASON I didn't say anything! I know what these blowhards on RT do with pictures!:no::no::no:

I wouldn't have cared if you had taken some pictures of our entertainment in the backyard! LOL! They put a real good show this morning! :D:D:D

I love your modern-day "Head West Young Man" story. And the Realtree Folks are never far away to help make a new place "Home". Such a great adventure.

Its been a lot of fun and I am glad I did it, but then again it has been scarey and I still question everything, but everything seems to be going good and I just pray that it continues. There are times when I get really homesick and miss my friends and family, but with time will come more friends and family out here. I know for sure I have met at least 2 friends/family members here in Washington, just wish I was closer to them than 2.5 hours.

Once again, another good reason to come back to take some pics. We should take a section of fence down and charge admission for the fight.:D
